Would the following heroes kill?
A coalition of Q, Thanos with the IG, The Living Tribunal, and hundreds of assorted generic omnipotents take the following to a cornfield in Kansas, where they'll have to either strangle a man to death or the cities of Metropolis, New York, and Gotham will be destroyed. They know that this man is completely innocent of any crimes, often volunteers at a local homeless shelter, a loving husband, and is a selfless parent.
Any attempt at cheating will be meet with the destruction of the Earth.
What would they do?
Punisher
Batman
Robin
Nightwing
Batgirl
Spider-Man
Mister Fantastic
The Invisible Woman
Cyclops
Captain Marvel(DC)
Feel free to add any..

If given a complete no win clause then yes, most if not all would...which somewhat defeats the purpose.
The problem is they are all dedicated to saving lives(and Punisher wouldn't even lose sleep...he'll see this as a boon) and while one man completely innocent and not doing any wrong, they are suddenly thrusted into either sparing his life and killing billions for a simple moral question...some would do it without hesitation, other would commit suicide, and other still will just mull it over.
The problem is that it's better to give them the chance to find another path and fail rather then say "This man or the world!"...because in that circumstances...no hero is that pure.

I was acutally wondering more along the lines of what the hero's reaction would be. Would they eventually get over it or would they just shot down? Which would have the most difficulty with the decision?Ghost Rider wrote:If given a complete no win clause then yes, most if not all would...which somewhat defeats the purpose.

Oh for that ...that's easy.
Spiderman, Batman would likely commit suicide or go catatonic. Literally they have taken one of their principle values and shattered it.
Captain Marvel, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, Reed, Sue, Cyclops would give up being a superhero.
Punisher would have a bad night of sleep.

I agree with the above.
The only Superhero that would probably flat out not do it would be Silver Surfer, he'd try to kick the villans asses instead. He might be able too. Silver Surfer vs Q in a fight would be cool as hell if Q doesn't move through time in the fight.
I noticed no Superman. Guess ya wanted the Villans to have a hero they could control.
Actually, I think most heroes would do it and either commit suicide or retire. Batman would probably kill himself right afterwards, same with Spiderman.
Or Batman would try to find a way to kill all the villans. Knowing Batman, he just might.

In most cases, for the sake of the story line, it would usually be someone they know. Batman would have to kill, oh let's say Tim Drake or perhaps Nightwing. Spiderman would have to kill Mary Jane or JJJ.Ghost Rider wrote:Oh for that ...that's easy.

They would usually be thrust on this morally ambiguent little reenactment of the story of Abraham in an archetypical way befitting comic book hero plotlines.

Why would Q, Thanos, the Tribunal and others do this? Thanos would see doing such a thing as petty and not worth the sweat off his balls. The Tribunal has more pressing things to do, like keeping a balance in the universe by zapping galaxies and shit. The other cosmic gods would be the sameway, too busy to mettle with such a senseless task.
Surfer would get his ass handed to him in a fight against the Cosmic gods.

They're superheroes, remember? They'd figure out a way to save everybody. Haven't you seen Spider-Man?
Other than that, yeah, you guys got it right.

Re: Would the following heroes kill?
Let's see.
Punisher: Probably yes.
Batman: No. He's proven time and again that he will not kill under any conditions whatsoever -- he repeatedly spares even the most hardened supervillains, knowing full well that sooner or later they'll escape and start harming innocents again.
Robin: Don't know much about him, but given that he's Batman's sidekick I doubt it.
Nightwing: Former Robin, if I recall correctly. A bit more ruthless than Batman, but still won't kill.
Batgirl: Another Batman protegee, also won't kill.
Spider-Man: Nope.
No idea on any of the others.
