Wow, that sucks man. Sadly, with the amount of idiots on the road nowadays, this kind of stuff happens a lot. Did anyone get the lisense plate number, or even the car make/model? He could go to jail and have Bubba tear him a new one. I'm really sorry to hear about that, I hope your friend doesn't take it too hard. (or you, for that matter). How old was the sister? Death sucks, but even more so if they were young.

wanna bet the ashat was drunk?
I hope they caught him and put him away for manslaughter, the bastard.
I also hope that your friend's dad pulls through okay. Stand by him, it's going to be rough on the family.

I've just glad they caught the one that caused the crash. 16yrs old, you said? Where was the 21+yr old that's supposed to be in the car with him? Why didn't that person say anything about the speed?
If there was no one else in the car with this child, the parents are also responsible, as owners of the vehicle and the child. They are supposed to make sure this child is learning RESPONIBLE driving.
If the law doesn't go after the parents, I urge your friend's family to file a Wrongful Death suit against them.

Oh, GOD. I'm really sorry about this. People like that should never have been on the road, in the first place. What the hell were his parents thinking, letting someone like that get behind the wheel?darthdavid wrote:He ended up in the hospital too. Dumbass. He was like 16, so he just got his drivers liscence.

If he does I hope he gets over it soon. I know a family that lost their daughter in a car accident. She was sitting behind her brother (who was driving). I don't know if it was a drunk driver that hit them but when they were hit the girl was decapitated and the head landed on her brother's lap. Needless to say he "lost it" and has never regained his sanity since and it has been 10+ years.LadyTevar wrote:<snip>

Ouch... sad... poor kids probably traumatised for life after watching his family die. Where do you live by the way? Not many states allow 16 year olds to drive anymore if my understanding is correct...

Holy shit. That's terrible.
Frankly, I don't care if he lands in prison, I just hope he's subjected to footage of the dead girl and of the family mourning their loss, over and over again. Hammer it into his mind what he's done, and let him be depressed about it for the rest of his life.
I was under the impression states were going for "progressive" systems rather than outright banning 16 yr olds from the wheel.

In Oregon, it's "graduated", so it takes 100 hours of driving with an adult while you have your permit (or 50 hours + driver's ed course) to get your license. From then, it's six months before you can drive someone not related to you, and then the following six months you can't have more than three passengers in the car. For the first 12 months you cannot drive after midnight without a school/work related reason. Not many states allow 16 year olds to drive anymore if my understanding is correct...

I think the law here in Maryland is still that you can have your license at 15 years and 9 months. It's a provisional one, so you can't drive after midnight and before sunup, but you are free to drive by yourself or with as many people as you like.Straha wrote:Ouch... sad... poor kids probably traumatised for life after watching his family die. That's awful news, though, David. It sounds like it's going to be extremely hard for everyone involved, including the 16-year-old kid who did it. (And since he's only 16, chances are he won't go to jail for very long, and it won't stay on his permanent record anyway, so his future--on paper, anyway--will be clear. Who knows about his conscience, though.)

3 things)
1) I'm really sorry to hear about your loss, and the suffering your friend's family is going thru now. In truth, words cannot describe how such occurrences make me feel.
2) I hope they make the sorry mutherfucker rot in jail for a good long time (permanent doesn't sound long enough), and *if* he ever gets out, he should be REQUIRED to have on his car's rear window the pictures of the accident, who he killed and hurt, and words along the lines of: "This is what I did, I killed so-in-so on such date."
Can we say: "no sympathy and lots of vandalism"?
3) I got my license at 19, there is no fucking way in hell that 16 year olds should be anywhere *near* the driver's seat at that age, the majority are going thru too much in their lives at the time to drive properly, that is also the time when the majority of them are trying to show off to others, so they fuck up since they don't have the driving experience to back up their stupidity, that and they tend to not know their, or their vehicle's, limits.
Btw, I will certainly admit I am a habitual speeder, averaging 6-8 over the limit, not unfrequently hitting 10-15 over, when I pass someone else I tend to hit in excess of 25-30 over, and on a handful of occasions I have gone down the highway at 35-40 over (95-100 in a 60), but those were at night with clear road for at least half a mile, same goes for passing at high speeds, it's fun, I know what both myself, and my car can handle, and I make sure that if I do Roman-candle, it will not involve someone else. (the worst so far was holding 95 in a 60 with extremely light traffic (read: 3 cars in 15 minutes, spaced about 3-4 minutes apart) at 10pm for about 20 minutes worth of my commute. Something I would not have done if there was any variety of traffic, and yes, I will admit that one was *very* stupid on my part.)
