I've never really grokked the "logic" behind Hell. It seems pretty shakey even by normal Fundie standards

Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't all the translations of "Hell" in the OT just references to Sheol, the place where ALL the dead go?

The torturous definition of hell most likely came with the paulite cult that put all the stuff the fundies love in the bible. If you read over those OT quotes too, to me, it doesn't seem like it's specifically talking about anything bad, nor good. But more neutral, it's just the author's opinion telling you that's what it means by association.

I think it says it in some of the Gospels (early on in St. John's IIRC) - and probably also some of the Pauline letters.
