More on the Lynch farce
Acts of heroism attributed to Lynch carried out by one of the dead unit members- recieves no recognition
The farce continues it seems, first the falsehoods surrounding her capture and rescue, the revelation that her injuries were sustained purely by way of a crash, that she didn't fire a shot, and gets a medal for it.

Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

I share your frustration. While I only wish the best for Pvt Lynch and her family, I can not stand hero building by the military PR groups. She deserves the purple heart, and perhaps a few others but the bronze star is for extrodenary actions while in combat. Getting caught and made a EPOW is not exactly extrodenary action durring combat.
I had the same problem with O'Grady durring Bosnia. The media had him a hero for being shot down and on the run for days. The real heros were the TRAP team that hualed his 'no flying ass' out of there, and I feel the same for Pvt Lynch. The DAT that pulled her out and saved her ass, are the real heros and deserve the that bronze star.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

While I understand, I think you're being too hard on Private Lynch - she's a poor girl who got caught up in the politics of things bigger than her.

Given the punishments that came down from on high for soldiers who complained recently, would YOU want to be the unlucky Private (First Class) who crossed the Oval Office?weemadando wrote:Who at no point has made any effort at all to tell the truth.Bob McDob wrote:While I understand, I think you're being too hard on Private Lynch - she's a poor girl who got caught up in the politics of things bigger than her.

Well, I haven't exactly seen news media lining up around the block to record her thoughts.weemadando wrote:Who at no point has made any effort at all to tell the truth.Bob McDob wrote:While I understand, I think you're being too hard on Private Lynch - she's a poor girl who got caught up in the politics of things bigger than her.
Besides, if she's guilty by lack of talking, I can think of a lot of herofied people who are far, far worse in that area.

Remember Nuremberg? And how it was deemed that simply by obeying commands you are as guilty as your superiors for not questioning the orders? And remember how the US accepted the results of those trials?Bob McDob wrote:Well, I haven't exactly seen news media lining up around the block to record her thoughts.weemadando wrote:Who at no point has made any effort at all to tell the truth.Bob McDob wrote:While I understand, I think you're being too hard on Private Lynch - she's a poor girl who got caught up in the politics of things bigger than her.

Therefore, one PFC Jessica Lynch is as guilty as hell.
They may all get the Bronze Star. We just won't hear about it.Hasler wrote:She still dosent deserve a combat medal. She gets the Purple Heart automatically and if they want to use her for publicity give her a meritorious service or good conduct. Giving her that medal is a slap in the face to other POWs from her unit that only got the PH.
The same for her 1SG, who, IMO from what reports I read, was far more of a hero than PFC Lynch. He should get something (Silver Star perhaps, but it's been a while since I read the reports, but don't think it's worthy of a DSC or the MoH), and probably will (posthumously of course) but we probably won't hear about it (jegs and SS might, being in the Army, and if they do, please share; I'm greatly interested in that guy).
Now, if they don't get anything, and Lynch is the only one to get beyond a PH a POW Medal, I will be royally pissed and every PIO type would be on my personal shitlist. Or at least those responsible for it.

That's an indictment of the entire damn world, though, not just some random POW who's been snatched up as a puppet by various political groups.weemadando wrote:Remember Nuremberg? do i have to go and post all the same shit i posted last week in the bronze star thread? the bronze star is not all it is amde out to be, especially when it is awarded without the V for valor like in Lynch's case. several dozen pentago desk jockeys got it in Kosovo. An army scientist who trained the Pakistani army how to study bug shit got it in Afghanistan. She meets the award criteria which i posted in the thread last week. Enough people. LEAVE THE FUCKING WOMAN ALONE! She did not create this media circus and i am sick and tired of a fucking wounded soldier being used as a goddamn pawn to make a political point....and the fact this dead horse is being repeatedly dragged around by Vympel of all people astounds me even further. You disagree with policy? fine! You disagree with government and media propeganda? FINE! But for fucks sake, enough with the shit thowing at the poor half crippled private who is most likely going to be mentally fucked up for the rest of her life.Knife wrote:I share your frustration. It's not a dead horse, if you read the article, you'd see that there were indeed acts of heroism, just that they were all attributed to someone who didn't do them.Col. Crackpot wrote:

That is true. Does Lynch deserve the Bronze Star? I doubt it. But since when did Lynch have a say in anything? Did anyone ask her opinion? Where are the interviews where she says that she's a Bonifide American Hero(TM), or the signs that this is nothing else than the usual BS politicians use to turn hapless victims into symbols of "Why We Fight?"Vympel wrote:It's not a dead horse, if you read the article, you'd see that there were indeed acts of heroism, just that they were all attributed to someone who didn't do them.
Attack the system. Attack the politicians. But for christ's sake, don't attack some poor kid who by all accounts never did a damn thing. Whether she's guilty by accepting it or not, that doesn't change the fact deflating her won't help your cause.
