In Shibuya station in Japan, they've got a statue of a dog that used to come and wait for his owner, who one day, died at/near work and never came back. So the dog stayed there until it died, waiting for its owner to come back.

There's also a memorial to a dog in a London cemetery that spent it's days at it's master's graveside after he died.

Is it me, or do you get the feeling that reading inbetween the lines, neither of these women was wearing a seatbelt ?

The bonds we humans make between are pets is amazing. When my dad's cat lost its playmate (another cat) due to a freak accident she was always very needy from then on and always needed a human around to sit on.

So far Ive been lucky enough not to have to adopt any of my family's pets after such a tragic accident as this.

Actually it's in Ireland (i forget the name of the dog, but I've visited the grave).

Didn't they do a movie about this back in the '50's, starring Lassie?

On a side note, after my beagle-mix had to be put to sleep, my (first) cat would search for her. Later, after my dad passed away, the cat would look for him, too....

Are you sure there isn't something similar in England? Really, I'm not much affected by this. I was the first time I heard such a story, but it is really a very common phenomenon. It happens all the time, as the above posts show.

The wonder of dogs. You can be gone 8 months or 8 seconds and you always get the same response. A very touching story.

It said her battery died while she was talking to the operator, so they no doubt were unable to trace her call. They probably had to search for her, and it sounds like they're in some sort of rural hell-- I mean it sounds like they're in the countryside. It could've been hard to find a car that went off-road.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Very moving.

Bah, my dog would never do that. I don't think she's 100 percent dog, I think she's 20% dog, 10% cat, 10% monkey and 60% insurance salesman.
