Does this make sense?

Post by Antediluvian »

Apparently, a defender of Andromeda on this board seems to think that dialogue override visuals when analyzing Andromeda.

Does that really make sense to anyone?

After all, in a scientific and logical analysis, what is seen always outweighs what is said.

So why should Andromeda be the exception to this?

It sounds to me like a recycling of an old Star Trek argument, exactly like what Warsies were accused of during the Andromeda/Star Wars debates.

Comments? Opinions?

I don't think it makes sense but I think the reasoning behind it comes from the people behind the show. At least that's what I think has been said on this board. :?

It's the official canon policy, if I recall correctly, so they're right.

It does not make sense. Who on the show claimed that's what we should do? Dialogue is subjective. Visuals are objective. There is really not a second way around that.

Well, I believe it's the official canon policy because they want to give an accurate picture of Andromeda on a limited budget. Or something.

If that's the reason, then its a stupid one. If battles were shown to be fought at hundreds of thousands of kilometers away, it would take less CGI. Hell, TOS managed to have lots of battles without even leaving the Enterprise bridge.

The way I remember it, the visuals are considered nothing more than flashy eye-candy.

That's what they say the producers say but I've never seen a quote that actually backs them up. And a lot of them seem to be recovering hardcore trekkies so take that statement with a grain of salt.
