Cybernetic Bodies

Actually, having thought about it, the only stuff I'd accept would be improved memery, better eyes, better heart, that sort of thing.
Better muscles? No. I've worked like a dog for what I've got, and to just go to the hospital and get an upgrade would cheapen so much hard work of mine. That would be quite unacceptable.

Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
It wouldn't be easy it get that to really work. You'd have to put in a reservoir which is easily filled, some stretching of muscles to get it to fit, rearranging of tubes and nerves; unless you wanna give up semen forever, you'd need some way to control which parts are used for the actual ejaculation.kojikun wrote:oh by the way xalev, you can ejaculate any liquid substance even presently, you just need to be fond of cathetars

i think you didnt udnerstand me. what you can do is first urinate away all your urine, then insert a cathetar into your bladder and fill your bladder with whatever liquid you choose. then when you urinate, its not piss but chocolate milk or whatever.

I don't think this was quite the discussion Durran had in mind. Whether or not he should have expected it is another matter.

I'm thinking some people would use it for their own take on Spiderman.

I was thinking it would've made slightly more biological sense than to be squirting from the wrists.

Re: Cybernetic Bodies
I would, without hesitation, enter a cybernetic body similar to the ones found in GiTS.Durran Korr wrote:I was watching Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex the other day and it got me thinking about the ethics of changing over to a cybernetic body. For those of you unfamiliar with GiTS, the main character, Maj. Motoko Kusanagi, is a woman who chose to give up her human body for a cybernetic one. Her body is almost entirely robotic; the only thing that remains is her brain, which itself has been still cybernetically enhanced but still retains the "ghost" (the film's term for self-awareness, or a soul if you will) of Kusanagi. She is treated like all other humans; there is no mainstream societal taboo against cybernetic enhancements, since almost all people have them (being completely organic is considered uncommon in the world of GiTS).
Her cybernetic body has a number of advantages over a human one; she is infinitely stronger and faster, she doesn't need to fear sickness (all she needs to do is have her body maintained routinely) and if something goes terribly wrong she can just get a new body, and she can drink as much beer as she wants without getting drunk (OK, maybe that's not an advantage).
What I'm asking you is if giving up your organic body for a cybernetic body is something that you would do, in the future. Assume that the procedure is nearly 100% safe and affordable, and also assume that your reproductive material will be saved in case you want to reproduce. Like Kusanagi, your brain will be enhanced but it will retain your identity. Assume also that there is no mainstream societal taboo against the procedure, other than a few religious nutcases.
I'll go ahead and post my opinions on the matter, to start out with. I would, without hesitation, enter a cybernetic body similar to the ones found in GiTS. There is nothing inherently sacred, in my opinion, about organic matter as a means of containing a human identity; the only thing that really makes us who we are is the brain, and that is the one thing that would be kept. The human body is designed rather poorly, to say the least, and entering into a cybernetic body would likely be a good means of prolonging my life and minimizing pain and discomfort. That's my opinion, at least, but what I'm most interested in is yours. Thoughts? Comments?
[edit] And yes, you can still have sex like a normal human.

This day is Fantastic!

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

What about being made of "living metal" like the C'Tan of WH40K??
Seriously - I don't think I'd ever become truly accustomed to having a robotic body... I confess to being unable to provide a logical argument for this.... I just don't think it's "right".
