Another time travel thread
You recieve a time travel device and you`re told you can change anything in history, what do you change and why?
Forgot to specify (no monetary gain)its so common and unimaginative.

I would shoot the people who crucified Jesus before it could happen. preferably with an MP5-SD and a couple dozen spare mags (I plan on taking enough of em out so that there's no possibility of it ever happening), then I would tell JC to write a note saying that Jehova was not a god, just a creature from the sky we call a 'space alien', similar to demons actually. Then I would tell him to leave the country as fast as he can and head east. The people two millenia hence will understand...

True, but there wasn't an infrastructure for electricity before it existed, so theres no issue.Hasler wrote:Just because they know about it dosent mean they can do anything with it. You would still have to set up the infrastructure to make each advance possible.

I'd tell Kaiser Friedrich III to listen to his German doctors and have his vocal cords removed. Hopefully he would survive the cancer that killed him in actual history.
That way, almost certainly, the Anglo-German arms race would have never happened and the twentieth century wouldn't have become the most blood drenched in history.

Besides, something would've happened anyway, so why waste time postponing major wars...you may get something worse.
Myself, I'd just go back, look around, and enjoy the ancient whorehouses (which probably didn't have half the VD troubles they might have today).
I'd be practical, and not terribly screw up/alter history, so that when I get back, God only knows what I'll come home to.

The U.S. was on it's way no matter what happened in Europe. The Spanish-American war was the first major step in that direction.RogueIce wrote:

And as to something happening anyway, Kaiser Friedrich would not have gotten rid of Bismarck the way his son did, Bismarck's strategy was all about keeping Britain as an isolationist Super-Power, and driving France and Russia apart. Wilhelm II achieved driving France into Britain's arms, with Russia tailing along behind. Those three were historic adversaries, and it was their unlikely union that brought about WWI, to a large extant.
If something was to happen in my scenario, it would likely be Russia reduced to practical irrelevance, and probable loss of Great Power status.
There was a sentiment growing in Germany, before Wilhelm and his "Ships of My Own" fantasies, of a Anglo-German-American entente. Where would we be now if THAT could have come about?????

Still making fun of the French, no doubt. Though they might not have had two major wars to surrender in...but there'd always be something.Frank Hipper wrote:There was a sentiment growing in Germany, before Wilhelm and his "Ships of My Own" fantasies, of a Anglo-German-American entente. Hm, UK, USA, and Germany the three Big Powers?
That would be interesting, assuming we kept on good terms of course.

Less likely GB, US, Germany...Hipper is more pointing towards a Germany/US union that would encompass a great deal of europe and what not.
It would be indeed something interesting to see.

Well, the talk at the time was one of the three "Teutonic Peoples"...
Bismarck's ideas were to treat Britain coolly, and let them come to the conclusion that an Anglo-German entente, or even alliance, would be in their best interests. The U.S., being culturally and idealogically friendly towards both Britain and Germany would be brought along for the ride.
Kaiser Friedrich, being married to Queen Victoria's oldest daughter, was all for this.
With the biggest, and most powerful Navy, Army, and Industrial Powers forming an alliance, the world could well be a more stable place today.....
I really spend too much time thinking about this...![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Does anything go?
If so I would go back to Greek times and take loads of weapons, ammo, lots of high explosives, gas, and a generator. Then I would display my awsome power. Hopefuly they think I am some sort of god and start to worship me. If they try anything to harm me, I would kill them and find another race to rule. I know that the generator would not last, but that's ok because before it runs out it would have served in powering the tesla coils I took with me. Then I would have anything I wanted that they could provide. Insted of Zeus, there is Lt. Dan!
And forget coming back, I don't think I would want to.

step one go foward in time, create a mobile fusion powered manufacturing center. Step two, go back to dark ages, set up a few villages with high technology, teach them how to build it themselves, help them get to manufacturing it, repeat untill world is set up with future tech in the dark ages. Come back and enjoy the benifits of ultra advanced tech.

You misunderstand me. I was saying that in order to make certain technology you need other technology in place. You want to make a steam engin locamotive well first you need the ability to produce steel capable of withstanding the pressures in the steam engin, you need to be able to produce lubricating oils etc.
Now that is 19th century tech if you want to advance to the point of today you would have to create machines capable of microscopic construction and machines to make those and so on. Even with the entire knowledge you are still talking a good 5 generations to impliment it.

I'd probably either travel back to some time after WWI to make sure Hitler or nobody like him comes to power and starts WWII, prevent the Russian Revolution, which could perhaps prevent Communism from being established, or back a decade or two to bet on winning lottery numbers to win big. I'll go with either one or two, I could just find another easy way ot make money.

All of which were readilly available to the romans. they HAD steam engines back then man, they just never used them because of the economic conditions.Hasler wrote:You misunderstand me. Whos talking about modern tech tho? Just giving them steam and electricity is enough to push the industrial revolution back to Republic days! Now that is 19th century tech if you want to advance to the point of today you would have to create machines capable of microscopic construction and machines to make those and so on. Ya they had rudimentary steam engins nothing that could withstand the pressure needed for a train. Even with electricity you have to produce a signifigant amount of fuel. This is the industrial base they would need to feul generators . They would also have to get ahold of rubber or other insilating materials for electricity. They would need better metalurgy for the generators. They would have to mine lots of copper. Haveing the knowledge would be nice but to take advantage of it you need alot of other tech.
