Oh, FUCK HIM!

LOOK AT WHAT THAT ASSHOLE DID!
I have been to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial myself, and I stood in the rain for a good 15 minutes looking at all the paper cranes people donated... the fact that someone could do such a horrible thing makes me feel sick.
I wonder how many cranes are LEFT now...

I'm taking comfort in the fact that there are so many cranes donated anyways that they will be replaced easily... but that is 144 people's wishes for world peace that he destroyed.

I thought the story said 140,000?DPDarkPrimus wrote:I'm taking comfort in the fact that there are so many cranes donated anyways that they will be replaced easily... but that is 144 people's wishes for world peace that he destroyed.
Doesn't seem like the first time someone's done this...In February 2002, 50,000 paper cranes were set alight in the park. (Compiled from Mainichi and wire stories, Japan, August 1, 2003)

Each person makes 1,000 cranes, I believe.
That's sick. I've been to that memorial, and the thought of anyone defacing it simply to vent their frustration at not graduating is disgusting.

He had better keep a low profile. If I were Japanese and I ever saw him on the street, I would beat the hell out of him.

I'd have to say this offends me more...Admiral Valdemar wrote:I'm a little more pissed off at the thugs defacing and breaking tombstones and memorials in France of British veterans from WWI and II. One instance they even took the door off a memorial tomb and set alight the book of condolences that had been signed by loved ones.
Burning origami from a peace memorial, well, that can be replaced, eventually. But a book of condelences?
And the burning origami could, somewhat in a loose way, be a political message if they so chose, but vandalizing a memorial to foreign soldiers who helped liberate your country?! No matter what the current politics may be between the two, there's no way the dead soldiers can be held remotely accountable, or be considered a viable target for a political statement...it'd be like defacing the Vietnam Memorial because you were opposed to the Vietnam War.

Thats pretty retarded.
On the other hand, its good to see that the Japanese are objective as everArsonist sets alight 140,000 origami cranes in Hiroshima wrote:The glass rooms are located around the bronze statue of a 12-year-old girl, Sadako Sasaki, who died from leukemia 10 years after she was victimized in the 1945 atomic bombing of the city.

No, she was a victim. She had nothing to do with the war, unless you count that the sins of the father be passed on she was a complete innocent, a victim of war.Howedar wrote:Thats pretty retarded.
You and I both know that the word "victimized" has far deeper connotations than that.

Don't know how you take it, but I take it like it means they went out of their way to hurt this girl, as in that was the whole purpose behind it, not her being in the wrong place at the wrong time or whathaveyou.Howedar wrote:You and I both know that the word "victimized" has far deeper connotations than that.

You'll notice the museum in Hiroshima makes absolutely no attempt to do anything other than demonize the bombings in every way that is open to them, although this is getting off-topic.

I blame the Japanese school system / mentality towards it for this incident. The attitude they have towards studies is totally insane. This person attacked the cranes since they were an easy target for a demented fool, not for any reason related to what they are. This guy should go to an institution instead of being beat up on the street by people from stardestroyer.net, and the educaitonal system should be fully revamped."I did it because I have been frustrated since failing to graduate (in March this year)."

Well, atomic bomings aren't exactly a good thing...HemlockGrey wrote:You'll notice the museum in Hiroshima makes absolutely no attempt to do anything other than demonize the bombings in every way that is open to them, although this is getting off-topic.
I mean, yes, it was a horrible occurance... however, I think that it was justified... but it happening again, in modern times? The museum is dedicated to ending nuclear weapons testing, and nuclear weapons usage as a whole... I think it's a rather noble goal.

I noticed this in the story:
Unless I am sadly mistaken, she did fold over a thousand paper cranes.Sadako believed that if she folded 1,000 paper cranes she would get well, but sadly died after reaching only 644.
