Barsoom versus Gor

Post by Darth_Shinji »

Trying to get back at this horrible ripoff/mockery.

Barsoom (The planet Mars from the John Carter series by Edgar Rice Burroughs) versus Gor. No tech preists....although Barsoom has a comply of scentific genusises that have already made tech far in advanced then the tech preists.

http://www.erblist.com/abg/index.html
A good place to find info on Barsoom, its peoples, and technology.
You can actaully read most of the novels here:http://whitewolf.newcastle.edu.au/w...oughsEdgarRice/

http://www.counter-urth.com/CF/gor_basics.html
Its the only source I have, and is the basis of this fight.

Fight one: all of the poeples of the planet.
Fight two: Tars Tarkus, leader of the green men (http://www.erblist.com/abg/greenmen.html) is astounded to find a culture crueler than thiers, and seeks to lead his horde to attack the major cities of Gor. About 150,000 thousand green men with mounts.

Two addems: no tech preists.And:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It possesses three moons, and has a lighter gravity than Earth, giving greater strength abilities to humans than on Earth. Gor exists in the same orbit as Earth, on the opposite side of the sun, causing it to be unseen from Earth.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is compleate and utterly crap, a lighter gravity would cuase the humans on Gor to lose strenght. So for the sake of intellegence the average Gorain has the strenght of an adverage red man, which for the most part seems identical to humans if born in lighter gravity.

I think it is to stop invasions by the creators and followers of crappy sites and philosophies. I personally could go without an invasion by the GorIdiots.

It's mainly for covering your tracks when linking to hostile boards that pose an invasion threat. I didn't see much of a problem in either of those links. After all, we have an entire thread of useful links in SLAM.

I really wouldn't sweat it.
If it was a link to a Gorean Board, with the potential of a horde of goons coming over, yeah, it shouldn't be direct.

Someone named "Yer Doomed" is the latest person to register, and I am now mildly concerned about these links.

No, it isn't a gorean board, it is a gorean chatroom rpg by the looks of it
Ah well. A mod must have seen this by now and nothing has changed so all must be well.

The goreans lose because the other guys were first, and everyone knows a copy is never as good as the original. Besides, the goreans will be spending way too much time flying around trying to capture alien chicks, they won't have time to fight. That and the fact that there is not much worse out there than Gor (I have read 4 of the books and saw 1/2 hour of the movie  )

Actaully reading this crap there's no way Gor can win. The average Gor city has an army is about 3000-4000 troops, Helium (Abiet the superpower of the world, with 4 cities :D) Has a standing army of 1 million troops.
Not to mention the barsoom battleship (the creme de la creme of airships, but every city-state has at least a couple) for your average city-state carries an army of about 10,000 troops.

Green Men have sifigantly smaller tribes, but are stated to be worth three times there number in red-man troops. Not to mention rifles with a range of 300 miles, and Green Men are that good with those rifles.

Since it appears that the Green Men have better weapons than the Goreans and also are physically stronger and more numerous, there's no way in hell that those tarn-riding S&M fetishists can win.

While I think that Barsoom would defeat Gor. I've been wondering about gravity. The Priest Kings have some kind of mechanism running so Gor appears to have Earth normal gravity even though it is significantly smaller.

Barsoom has less that Earth gravity, which is why John Carter, Carthois and Ulysses Paxton can leap around kicking ass and taking names. If the natives of Barsoom were to fight on Gor they'd be physically at a disadvantage with or without the Priest King's gravity doohicky. If the fight was on Barsoom the Goreans would benefit from the lighter gravity. Although, I'd say it probably make it easier for the people of Barsoom to take them out. The few that actually get the hang of the lighter gravity would be hopping around so it end up being a skeet shoot for the Green Martians. :D

Actaully according to the webpage I have there they do have lighter gravity. Seeing that the Gorains have lived here for hundreds of years I see no reason why they are as strong than normal humans. They should be like red men. If I had a reson to belive this was anything more than "Lets make a planet full of sexist John Carters!" Without thinking of the sceince of it, I would have no choice but to allow it. But there isn't.

So a Gorain=Red Man in the strenght department. But if I'm wrong in my thinking and my knowledge is inncorrect let me know.

And John Carter and Ulysses are not exactly normal human either. The rip out of thier skins to transport and are unaging. And if I recall correctly, Carthois was weaker than his father as his muscles were more used to the gravity. In a couple of generations his kids would be like everyone elses except of racal differences (caucasan features).

Works for me. I've only read one Gor book and a couple of pages in another.

Carthois was definately weaker than his father, being only half human and growing up on Barsoom. Still, he's quite a bit stronger than any of the other two-armed Martians.

Gor has about the same amount to do with BDSM as rape does with sex.

Regardless of whatever Gor resembles, the Green Men are going to kick their butts.

BTW #2, if any moderator reads this, change "tarn-riding S&M fetishists" to "tarn-riding RayCav clones".

Much more appropiate, ain't it?

I might be ranting about this too much but I can't stand the ripoffness of this series....The books are named the same way, the written formate seems the same (From the small bits I've read), the peoples are definatly based on Barsoom people....He just perverts them into sexist slavers. True, there is a bit of slavery in the novels. and the women are often captured and need to be saved by the main hero. But slavery on Barsoom is more of the old african form of slavery, with slaves able to gain positions and freedom in the slaver's society. And women have had thier fair share of heroines and villainesses. Even saving the hero's ass on occasion.

ERB's would be rolling in his grave!

(gasp)

John Norman is at once a hack, a pervert AND a rip-off artist!!! I wonder why ERB's family haven't sued him yet.

He's not a pervert.

He's an evil, twisted man. "Pervert" implies mere sexual abnormality. There's more to his "philosophy" than sexual abnormality....

"No folly is more costly than the folly of intolerant idealism." - Sir Winston L. S. Churchill, Princips Britannia

American Conservatism is about the exercise of personal responsibility without state interference in the lives of the citizenry..... unless, of course, it involves using the bludgeon of state power to suppress things Conservatives do not like.
