Think the Empire has a chance against the Federation? They use primitive lasers, which can't penetrate even navigational shields! And while Voyager has a cruise speed of 1000+ c, the "fastest ship in the galaxy" Falcon can barely due 1.5c!

And if that wasn't enough, they don't even have 1000 ships. Since Solo though that was a big impressive number, they probably has around 300-500 ships. Compare that to the fleet in "Sacrafice of Angels" which was 600 and concidered small!

First they may/may not use lasers (personally I would say no, most Pro wars shift depending upon what benefits them most at that point in time

) but a 200 GT laser isnt primitive in my world (and while I have seen some reasoning that implies Federation ships can scale down the power of lasers using some technobabble diffraction I cant see them reducing the power by several orders of magnitude (in essence those "lasers" will destroy a Fed vessel with ease if you take the current somehwat accepted figures)).

The .5 past light speed means the Falcon has a 0.5 Hyperdrive engine which does far and away faster than Feds ships (its about Quantum slipstream speed I believe but it isnt upto Transwarp conduit speed).

As for the 1000 ships quote most people dismiss it (because the quote was incomplete and it seems way to small), in truth there isnt a real defense aginst this apart from just ignoring it.

The lasers your referring to came from the 22-3 century. That's around the time when the Federation just started space-faring.

Now it goes against logic of advancements to use a space faring race that has only been warping around for only 200 years to a civilization that has hyperspacing around for 25,000 years.

Remember the Federation abandoned lasers in favor of phasers b/c they could not figure out how to make it even stronger and that's assuming they use "cannons" *did they?*.

Now in Star Wars they have been advancing the laser cannons to the point where an acclamator cruiser's cannons can do 200 Gigatons per shot and that's in Attack of the Clones, who knows how much more a star destroyer has.

THe quantum torpedo can only d0 128 megatons and the phasers are even worse as they can't even scratch the paint on the ship.

The only thing the Federations would be able to destroy are TIE Fighters and picket ships like the carrack cruiser.

These kinds of posts happen an awful lot. I suppose that by now, everyone on the Internet (and the millions watching on their televisions around the world) accepts the laws of thermodynamics and the Star Wars victory, and clearly this kind of argument has become its own parody. I suppose that now this means that it's no longer necessary to argue the point as well. I mean, look at it:

Neutral people who have taken at least (or even at most) one year of college physics will accept it, and not see the need to argue with clearly inferior strangers;

Neutral people who haven't been to college and get all their info from the movies will accept the conclusion because it's obvious.

Neutral people who've been to college but majored in humanities or something else will accept it for reason #2, and also because taking fine arts or whatever won't get you out of math class, and the mere process of going to college does impart some common sense and analytical ability.

Even your hairdresser will tell you that Star Wars is the clear winner in any kind of military/industrial matchup between universes. Nobody really believes ST would win, and those that do are marginal. So why try to talk to them?
