Lukes Academy seems to be a good start. His follow up idea of using the Academy then moving on to the Padewan-Master method seem best. From reading the Pre-OT EU books a Jedi Padewan seems to suffer slightly from being isolated with just the mentor. The real problem with Geonisis(sp) was that the Jedi started the battle as individuals. It wasn't till they had lost half their number that they formed a group in the middle of the arena. The Academy folowed by apprenticeship would teach the individual more about team work and make them more able for working in teams which is something you don't really see in Jedi untill, god forgive me, the Jedi Accademy.

Not really, without the Force, they can't block blaster bolts.Solauren wrote:Train them as combat troops minus the Force. Small arms operation, etc.
Including lightsaber training without the Force.
That would help them out, no matter what

Plus someone using a lightsaber without the force is far more likely to self amputate important limbs.

Geonosis wasn't really their fault. The Jedi train to be ultimate one man ass wooping machines for a reason. Alot of people find this to be a flaw because of Geonosis, but if you look at the general mission of the Jedi, keepers of the peace (cops/arbatraitors), and take into account the amount of Jedi against the population they are policing, IIRC there were about 10 thousand Jedi v what? Trillions of sentient beings in the galaxy?, then the Geonosis desaster was more of a missapplied force rather than bad tactics.
The Jedi are used to going one on ten or one on twenty so when they arrived at Geonosis they reverted to their general tactics. In fact wasn't there a line in the OT RotJ book that mentioned that when all else fails, attack as a Jedi saying? This would fit well into a fighting philosiphy of a group that is used to being outnumbered in battle. However, the numerical advantage on Geonosis was extreme and they soon overwhelmed the Jedi.
Granted, you would think that the Jedi would have adapted better but then again arrogance was strictly mentioned as a flaw in the Jedi more and more common.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I thought that it was a "Force shield" that kept jedi from gettingIncluding lightsaber training without the Force.
burned from the lightsaber,, hence the reason Qui-Gon Jinn was not
harmed while standing a mere foot or two from molten metal at the
start of TPM. Without the "Force shield", his clothes and hair would
have melted at the very least.
So while a good idea, to train them with the weapon without
depending on the Force, it would not be possible.
IIRC from the RotJ novelization, Luke was thinking to himself when he was assembling his lightsaber on Tatooine. Any how, on of the passages mentioned that the super conductor (or some such thing) worked and he could not feel any heat coming from the blade.Equinox2003 wrote:I thought that it was a "Force shield" that kept jedi from gettingIncluding lightsaber training without the Force.

So in the lightsaber, there is a mechinism that dissapates the heat from the blade to protect the user. Now obviously the heat from the door would be a problem for Qui Gon so I don't have an answer for that.

That would push them closer to the dark side.Solauren wrote:Train them as combat troops minus the Force. Small arms operation, etc.

I would personally tell them to use the Force more and I extend their training a few more years.

What's to explain? The blades do not generate heat.
Lightsabres cut by stripping electrons from the matter it contacts. Molecular exitation generates heat. Basically, the material heats itself.

Sorry, I thought it was the RotJ novel but still there is the reference. On the stripping of the electrons thingy, refer to Robert Browns site. While not cannon in any way, it has some good insight on how it COULD work.He nodded and relaxed his fighting stance. He held his left hand near the blade. No sensation of heat; that was god; it meant the superconductors were working.
Well damn, did Brown take his site down? I'd hate to think that the Falcon page and the lightsaber page are gone forever?!

Re: jedi
The Prequel Jedi are loners. Watch Anakin, Obiwan or even Qui Gon. The master will not hesitate to leave behind his young charge and go off on his own mission. This is further complicated by the parental relationship Jedi Masters had with their Padawan, or at least, the parental relationship we saw as expressed by Obiwan and Qui Gon.Enforcer Talen wrote:if you had the option, how would you train jedi? as per genosis, they didnt seem to fair well.
So, I guess I go around teaching them to work as a team. Not just groups of two but in larger groups, one able to work with others, even non Force sensitives, instead of being like Obiwan and Anakin who seem to bully their views across.
