Schwarzennager could probably win without a great deal of competition if he ran. He is probably known to 99.9% of Californians, which is more than the rest of the candidates can say. People who have no preference could very well vote for him instead of some no-name (to them) politician.

That said, I see no such announcement on CNN's web site.

He seems to be fairly progressive on social issues, and given his past career doing violent movies there probably won't be any of the "family values" bullshit.

The other Republicans will try to force the issue and say that he lacks experience and that he is a Hollywood type. He has a good chance though, considering the financial backers that he will be able to call in.

The GOP actually probably isn't too happy with this. Keep an unpopular Democratic governor in and the Californian voters will be more likely to elect a Republican to the Senate in 2004.

He is a Republican. A moderate one in a party that's growing more and more reactionary but he is a Republican none the less.

Yes, his wife is Kennedy. The rumor that he wasn't going to run also said that he his decision was because of his wife's security concerns. Course that's proven to be untrue if he's running
