ARIA wins the battle - but will they win the war?

Post by weemadando »

ARIA has just won a courtcase that is going to force about 10 universities in Australia, including my old one, to turn over their file servers, network hubs, and a massive quantity of other related bits in order to have them searched by ARIA investigators for illegal mp3 trafficking evidence. Already this debacle has cost my uni $1 million in court costs, yet ARIA says that they aren't the targets of the operation...

Well, shit. If they aren' t the targets of the operation, why the hell have they spent the past 6 months hounding them?

Cock-sucking bastards...

Australia, the last baston of freedom in the western world, has too been overrun.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Is anyone else noticing that Australia seems to be purposefully trying to emulate everything that's wrong with the US?

America has so many good things worth copying and emulating-- why do others only copy the shitty stuff? Here in the States, things like the Patriot Act are getting challenged and in fact I am proud to say that a representative from my home state, Butch Otter, a Republican, is leading an initiative to overturn much of it as unecessary and intrusive.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Since when did a recording industry association become a law enforcement agency, able to look through privately owned machines for illegal content? :?

IIRC correctly that was already infront of the Federal Court so the only option is a full bench High Court if my Legal Studies memories hold true...

Well, atleast we have a pretty damn good Law Faculty and Dr Alan Fels on our side!
