Got my 1st speeding ticket...
for doing 50 in a 30. Pleaded down to a couple parking tickets though. No DL points. *whew* Good thing, too. My car insurance is a big enough pain in the arse as is.

Tough, man. I got a ticket about 18 months ago, 87 in a 65. Fixed my ass right up, I never speed these days.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

You're gonna do that in Cobb County, GA of all places? That's one of those places that sounds like the local cops thrive on getting speeders (like Waldo, FL...those rat-ass bastards. I never drive there).Durran Korr wrote:Tough, man. I got a ticket about 18 months ago, 87 in a 65. Fixed my ass right up, I never speed these days.

Heh, I'm up to 2 already in the last 10 months. Both for 70 in a 60 (first time was actually 67, the second time was 72)
Of course they never catch me when I'm doing it deliberately, such as my holding 95+ for 20 minutes at 10:30pm... Or the many other times I've done 90+, nevermind the 100+ I did about 2 weeks ago.

About 15 years ago, a state trooper pulled me over for speeding in my 1975 Caprice (gotta love those old 454's).
He walked up to the car and asked me if I knew how fast I was going.
I was scared shitless and blurted out 'My speedometer doesn't go that high' (it only went up to 100 mph)
He laughed and said I was doing 115 and accelerating when he flipped his lights on. He then said he was going to take it easy on me and write me up for doing my average speed of 79 in the 45 zone instead of the 115+ that I was doing.
I got lucky that day. I was even luckier when I went to court and the judge gave me defensive driving school instead of points and a fine.
Two saturdays and $25 later, my license was still clean as far as my insurance company was concerned.

Hrm...I've gotten like five parking tickets in the five years that I've been driving...first one was in NYC, where the ticket was actually stolen and I received a second notice with a higher fine.
I've only ever gotten pulled over once, and that was for driving without my lights fully on (I had the parking lights on and didn't realize it).
Take Defensive Driving anyway. Saves money on insurance.

I got 40 in a 25. Mind you, it was a deserted stretch of blacktop with woods on one side and a railroad spur on the other, and the limit is 35 on a parallel road with houses on both sides, but I was clearly a menace to public safety who had to be stopped. I pled down to careless driving, but I'm not fortunate for it--the Goddamn town had a racket all set up, where everyone busted for speeding that month was tried at once--plea not guilty to speeding, get called out, have a cop offer you the plea deal, go back and plead guilty to the lesser offense. Careless driving has no points, but, more importantly, the municipality issuing the ticket gets all the money. It doesn't have to give a cut to the state.

I got 60 in a 45 courtesy of the FHP. Which I thought was a mistake seeing as how I drive a Kia Sephia and got pulled over about a half mile down the road after making a left at the intersection.
When he asked if I knew what he pulled me over for I replied "Cause you couldn't catch the Toyato Supra that passed me at warp speed with his lights off"
Granted I said a few other less flattering statements which made the ticket automatic rather than getting off with a warning.
Still, one speeding ticket in over 15 years of driving isn't to bad. everything else up to then was the occasional parking ticket.

Late on a Sunday morning in 1991 I got a ticket for 79 in a 65 on I10 in the great state of Texas. I was actually going a little faster than that but the Highway Partolman cut me a little slack, either because I pulled over when he turned on his lights and tried to come after me, or because he saw my Navy uniform in the back.
At the time going 15mph over the speed limit or more meant you had to see the judge. Being a Sunday that meant I would have spent the night in jail and seen the Judge on Monday.
I almost forgot to mention that the ticket cost me $75. I could have gone to traffic school and been free and clear but that was the middle of Texas and I was going home on leave to Arizona. Nope, not going back for traffic school.
Also, since the ticket was out of state it never impacted my insurance.

Well, actually it was along Georgia 316, which is just about the most dangerous road in the state. I'm amazed that I got away with speeding as much as I did before I finally got that ticket.RogueIce wrote:You're gonna do that in Cobb County, GA of all places? What does that entail? I wouldn't mind knowing in the event that I get a speeding ticket.Kuja wrote:for doing 50 in a 30. Pleaded down to a couple parking tickets though.
Heh, it's almost impossible to speed on 99W between Corvallis and McMinnville if you drive at the wrong time... so many people just go 55 it becomes downright stupid to try and pass them. Now, Highway 47 I gladly go the speed limit on... but 99W is really quite safe at 65.

The really fun part is when you're pulled over on one of those higways through the center of Georgia or central Florida, some sherrif with a Smokey Bear hat struts up to your window, turns to spit out a stream of tobacco juice, smiles to reveal missing teeth, and says, "Boy, you ain't from around here, are you?"
The good news is that if are from around here, they'll let you off with a warning or drop your reported speed a good bit.jegs2 wrote:The really fun part is when you're pulled over on one of those higways through the center of Georgia or central Florida, some sherrif with a Smokey Bear hat struts up to your window, turns to spit out a stream of tobacco juice, smiles to reveal missing teeth, and says, "Boy, you ain't from around here, are you?"

Hehe, my dad got pulled over on a business trip in Florida, while driving through the center of the state. He actually couldn't understand what the highway patrollman was saying, which aggravated the redneck, naturally. My dad found out eventually that the cop was trying to find out whether or not the car was a rental, but it came out as "Y'rint th' veehcle?"jegs2 wrote:The really fun part is when you're pulled over on one of those higways through the center of Georgia or central Florida, some sherrif with a Smokey Bear hat struts up to your window, turns to spit out a stream of tobacco juice, smiles to reveal missing teeth, and says, "Boy, you ain't from around here, are you?"
As for me, I've never even been pulled over. Came dangerously close a few times, as I've sped past some of those points where the cops are situated on the road trying to dispell speeding. Not really a speed trap, because they're trying to make their presence known. Since I always visibly slow down once I notice the cops, they never give chase.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

If you get a speeding ticket, you can usually plead "Not guilty" and then plea bargain it down to a pair of parking tickets or so. You still pay money, but you don't pay as much and your driver's lisence doesn't take a hit. Win-win.
