I found a link to the main site on either Robert Brown or Curtis Saxton's site in high school sophomore year (~late 1999), and it became a site that I read and visited regularly. When the board came on, I lurked and then joined almost immediately.

Did a search for Carracks, the medieval kind, found a bunch Star Wars Carrack refrences, and said "what in THE fuck?". Then, with AOTC being released it sparked my slumbering interest in SW, and I did a search for "Star Destroyer", and found the main site.

I remember that too, pretty cool. I think I showed up right around the furious days of the Wong/Anderson debate (and I still check in via Google fairly often). Good timesDalton wrote:Bollocks. I remember welcoming you and you fast became one of us.

I think it was petering out a bit when you sauntered in, but the timing sounds about right.Drewcifer wrote:I remember that too, pretty cool. I was on Creationweb, but missed the whole 'incident that shall not speak its name'. However, there was much bitching, and when a friend of mine mentioned the main site, I wandered straight inot the forum

Found the fanfic at Sf debris during a lul moment at a really huge project I was involved in 1999.
From there I got to Daltons ASVS Fanfic Archive And read most of the fanfics.
At the archive links side I found the link to SD.NET
I remember the great fun I had surfing in now and then and checking if MW had updated Conquest yet![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

I noticed a thread on ASVS about this boards creation and came right over.

1. Someone posted the turbolaser page in an ST vs. SW argument...WOW
2. inspired me to google for more data in the arguments, which were still quite pointless those days on local boards ("saliva-war"...which meant any side were just barking pointless points....)
3. Found Poe's page....WOW^2
4. Linked to the "I want you for the Galactic Empire"...WOW^10

A week? Hell, I missed it for almost a year.RedImperator wrote:I discovered the main site just surfing around one day, after that I checked for updates pretty regularaly. I somehow missed the announcement the board had been created for more than a week.

I was a regular poster at Heavengames forums and we were having a periodic upsurge of fundies that needed some serious kicking in the nuts, when somebody linked Mike's Creationism pages. I read those, then slowly moved to the rest of the site. I haven't seen another site on the web that is on the whole half as entertaining as SDnet is. I joined the board after it had been operational for a week.

frequented sd.net the site before it had a forum. Never been to these other forums. Only been to www.coolsigforum.com and some aviation specific forums (pprune, YSSY and Avsim) in the past.
I've heard of the SD.net for years, from ASVS. I've occasionally visited it. When it was anounced on ASVS that the forum was created I just said, "Meh." and ignored it. It was only until this April that I've seriously made an attempt to join SD.net.

I'd seen the site a long, long time ago. Not a clue how I first heard of it. Anyway, I don't know what it was that made me check back on it, but I did, less than a week after the forum was created. Signed up for the hell of it. Stayed for the hell of it. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

I'm not too sure where and when, but the "where" I think it was most likely off of the now-gone Debate Slate of the Turbolaser Commentaries, while I suspect the "when" would be very early in the site's history - I remember the sidebar having large brown imperial logos for about a week or two before they changed to green.

I first came across this page a few years ago, while I was surfing around for stuff about Star Wars. I found a link on altavista or something (I think this was before google's days
) that sounded funny: "I want you for the Galactic Empire". "Heh", I thought and clicked on it. A pic of Darth Vader pointing at me with the text "I want You for the Galactic Empire" above it. I thought "he he he, that looks just like that guy Uncle Sam. Hehe funny", and left the page and didn't think much about it for some time.
But after month of watching Voyager (the only sci-fi TV showed back then. Now they have upgraded to Andromeda
and Enterprise
), I decided to see if I could find some movies or something were Voyager and the rest of Star Trek getting it's ass kicked by Star Wars so I search google for (taadaa) "ST vs SW". The first pages just showed the usual crap "10 reasons why ST kicks SW's ass"-"jokes" and that asshole David Brin's page. Later I found "The I Hate Star Trek"-page and Poe's page. But when I searched for "SW vs ST" I found a familiar-sounding page. "I want you for the Galactic Empire". I knew I had heard ot read that at some other place. So I clicked on the link and saw Darth Vader pointing at me and remebered that I had been here before. I realised that this wasn't a pure Star Wars site. This was a versus site and definately one of the best. I checked in almost every day and read the fanfic and everything else and one day there was a link that said "Discussion Forum". I clicked it and I found this forum. A month later, I registered.
And there you have the full story.
The short-short version: I just surfed in.
