SA forums try their hand at science and physics

Post by His Divine Shadow »

I've certainly seen an interesting discussion there, about wheter lasers cast a shadow or now, here we have a gem where this guy thinks that photons are eletrons:
you've been watching to much star trek, loser. light is made of electrons. Electromagnetic Radiation (break it down! Electro - electron, magnetic - has a charge, radiation - emitted from source of energy *** SO HOW CAN A PHOTON, WITH NO CHRAGE, BE ELECTROMAGNETIC?) Einstein won a nobel prize for pointing out that if you hit a peice of metal with light, it knocks electrons out. Its the basis for film, television, rainbows, anything with color and its called Quantum Chromo Dynamics. Electrons go into your eyeballs and thier energy level dictates what color you see. If the energy level is too low you see nothing, but your radio might. If its too high, you wont see anything, again, but bees might. if its way too high, you still don't see anything but your frozen burrito might get all hot and bothered. If its super high it will tear your dna up and cause cancer and malformations, which in your case might prove beneficial.
EDIT:
Now correct me if I'm wrong(which I very much doubt), but Electrons have mass(9.110x10-31kg), so they cannot be photons which are massless.

The guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. Electromagnetic radiation is comprised of photons moving in a wave. This isn't even high-school science - you usually learn this stuff in middle school!

 More proof that the intelligence level in the civilized world is declining and we desprately need Genetic Engineering to fix the problem. Where did this come from again?

I just showed this to a friend of mine who goes on the Something Awful forums... He said that SD.net doesn't get sarcasm and that we should go back to working out the KE of the Death Star. Typical.

There was nothing sarcastic about that post that I could tell.

This is NOT sarcasm, this is sheer stupidity!
When we're figuring out the KE of the DS, we know what we're doing, this guy doesn't even comes close to know what he's talking about, much less apply that knowledge.

Exactly what I told him, but apparently (and I quote), we "fell for it".

By the way, the people over at the SA forums were having a laugh last night because one of them fount their mother's vibrator and they were daring him to lick it and other such things. Doesn't that say it all?

Not sure if you'll be able to see it because of a need to register, but here.

what is there to fall for? It wasn't sarcasm, it wasn't intended to go here by any means.

Bzzzt! The got the first and last part right but fucked up the bolded part good, that is if by "electrons" they actually meant "photons". Bees might see in UV, I don't know, biology ain't in my field of knowledge. However, note the part about the burrito, it's a reference to heating up burritos in a microwave. Except there's a problem, microwaves have far longer wavelengths and less energy than visible light. Duh-duh-duh-dumbass!

Oh, how has he wronged us? Let me count the ways:
Some Person wrote:you've been watching to much star trek, loser. light is made of electrons.
Strike 1. Hell, no.
Some Person wrote:Electromagnetic Radiation (break it down! Electro - electron,
Strike 2. Electromagnetic Radiation--oscillation of the electric and magnetic fields. (Thus it is produced by the acceleration of charges.)
Some Person wrote:magnetic - has a charge,
Strike 3. Charge motion.
Some Person wrote:radiation - emitted from source of energy) Einstein won a nobel prize for pointing out that if you hit a peice of metal with light, it knocks electrons out. Its the basis for film, television, rainbows, anything with color and its called Quantum Chromo Dynamics.
Strike 4. Quark color (one of the topics of QCD) has nothing to do with the everyday notion of color. Quarks have a flavor too, but that has nothing to do with how things taste either.
Some Person wrote:Electrons go into your eyeballs and thier energy level dictates what color you see.
Strike 5. Please don't electricute my eyeballs.

The SA forums have loads of really intelligent people. Just taking one post doesn't prove a thing, unless of course I can judge this place by looking at one of Darkstar's posts. With 17,000 members you are going to get a large number of idiots. Like me.

WTF? Just like any other extremely narrow beam of light. I guess you could say they do, although it's a strange way to say it.
