Bend It Like Beckham

Post by Robert Treder »

Just saw it today, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was quite entertaining, and very cute.

I expected it to follow the typical Bad News Bears/Mighty Ducks sports movie formula, but the attention was hardly on the sport at all, which actually worked well. The characters were endearing, fleshed-out, and generally likeable (not to mention a lot of them were easy on the eyes).

Plus, Keira Knightly excitedly yelled out my home town's name :P
(now if I could just get her to excitedly yell out my name...)

So if any of you out there were hesitant about seeing it like I was, my recommendation is that you stop hesitating and go for it. It's enjoyable, and it's a great date movie, to boot.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Man, I loved that movie too. It was very well done.

*I should point out, that my Indian/Sri-Lankan/Pakistani friends all refer to themselves as 'curry munchers' and we call each other such (I am a wog) in jest. No offence was intended.

I can't imagine taking offense when the insult is so delicious! Damn, curry is good. I don't have any particular attachment to the Indian culture or history, but Indian cuisine is easily in my top two favorite cuisines.

My sister compared it to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" in that it's basically about saying: "Yes, other peoples families are just as screwed up as yours..."

How long do you think until Beckham runs for President of the EU?

He'd never get elected. Alex Ferguson would kill him 1st. Beckham is the most over rated man in the world. He's only got this far by being a weirdo married to a spice girl who tells him what to think.

It scares me that so many foreigners have seen and enjoyed this film with which I thought would subside into the shadows without incident.

I saw it mostly on a plane to Cyprus, was quite funny even if I never bothered to see it at the flicks. And yes, Keira Knightly = h0tn3ss!

It was playing on a flight I was on, but I was kinda tired, and the crappy headphones the plane provided made it impossible to hear. Perhaps I could rent it.

I have not seen this show, but it looks interesting. However, I cant get anyone to go with me. I'll catch it on video.

Should be coming out on video at the end of September, or thereabouts. Certainly rentworthy, especially if you've got a ladyfriend (like I said, it's a good date movie).

September?, it came out in about April here. It was an ok movie though, went well because Kumars at #42 was big at the same time.

Watched it with my girlfriend, it was her suggestion we rent it. I liked it too, it was a good movie. But even though Keira Knightley might be hot, I liked Parminder K. Nagra (who plays Jesminder) a whole lot more. Much more to my taste.
