According to Yahoo Maps, it's about 10 km their way; 6 - 6.5 km the straight way... you theoretically could've made it.

Sometime similar happened to me, with 4 exceptions:

1. The distance involved was about 7-8 km
2. She gave me 5 minutes
3. The girl is really bad at estimating (it was intended for me to not be able to make it)
4. I made it

Better luck next time?
