Hell, B5 the series was accepted by WB before DS9 was announced, and the B&B actually rushed the DS9 pilot into production to get it out BEFORE the B5 pilot in order to make B5 look like the fraud.
So do not ever make that mistake again.

try this http://www.babtech-onthe.net, this is still the most accurate b5 tech site on the web.

First ones v.s. Borg?
I think it would be close by I would go with First Ones.
ISA v.s. Federation?
Centauri v.s. Klingons?
If the B5 side is limited to the tech they had in the series, I would say ST side wins. If the B5 side had tech parity with ST, then ISA vs. Federation would be a draw. But, Centauri vs. Klingons would be an easy victory for Centauri.

Oh hell no you did not just say that. You, my mis-informed little trekkie friend, has been grievously mis-informed. 'Tis DS9 that is the rip off. JMS (the creator of B5), when trying to sell his show, went to paramount. They rejected his show and the outline he brought with him, and few months later came up with the "original" show of DS9.

B&B need to be shot! Stupid frickin losers, first they ruin one good scifi, and then try and pass off another as a rip off!

Another? I was never aware that you dealt me anything. All I tend to remember from your brief foray into the Transformer board that your brother frequents is that we were arguing over what you've replied to and you were losingSteve wrote:

I'd gladly give it another go. But not for this thread, which is for actual space battles.

Did anyone else pick up on the Ivanova line in Babylon 5 when they make a jab at DS9. This is when they had to result to desperate measures to find financing and they were selling toys of the command staff;

PS. Can I get in, too? I'm a pro-Wars debater, and if you want this as a Trekkie vs. Fiver conflict, I'd be happy to sit to out and watch, but I humbly ask permission to point out things like that. Feel free to limit my involvement, prevent me from being involved, or to allow my complete involvement at your discretion, Solid Snake.

Erm... I can't think of a really nice way to say this, but, DS9 was a completely crappified version of B5. B5 was better in every conceivable way as a drama and a television show. It required more participation from the viewer (in terms of time and intelligence), but once its requirements were met it became blatantly obvious that JMS was so much better as a writer than anyone even remotely connected with DS9 that any comparison between the two would be an insult.PROMETHEUS wrote:Babylon 5? That notwithstanding, this is almost certainly a debate over technology and industrial capability. It really has nothing to do with which was the better series.

Due to the limits of the FTL method used by the majority of the B5 races, any war fought will have to be defensive only. Without a working system of Hyperspace jump gates and beacons it is not possible to reliably travel through B5-Hyperspace, unless you possess advanced understanding of Hyperspace like the Shadows and other First One races. Unless the ST forces are going to allow the B5 forces to establish such a network, any attempt to go on the offensive will have to rely on the acquisition of Warp technology and the various other systems that allow Warp to function.

Refresh your memory, what did the Cortez do when it got to a new star system without a pre-existing Vorlon-seeded jump gate?Map Alpha Quadrant Hyperspace using explorerships as seen as the first episode of Season 2 perhaps?

Well, the worst of the babylon5 episodes would be considered the best of DS9 and ST:Voyager in terms of... well everything.Master of Ossus wrote: Erm... Let's see.
Well there ships have NO SHIELDS so 1 hit will instantly kill them. I mean, come on! The great powerful Sharlin got killed by a <2 MEGATON bomb! Compare this to ST ships that destroy planets in hours!
And of course their weapons are pathetic. Their big guns are lasers or some weak neutron guns, and their big pulse cannons that blast apart ships are 200 megaWATTS!
And their fleet numbers suck. They managed to get, what 30 ships around Mars. 30, in their capital system!

C'mon in MoO. About the 2MT Sharlin thing, Londo was wasted when he told that story. About sheilds, who cares if they dont have sheilds? Voyager has told us that thick armor is better than sheilds. Most Fed ships dont have armor, only uber-Voyager and the Defiant have armor. All other SF ships depend on sheilds that have a tendancy to drop when you need them.
Besides, SF ships wouldnt even be able to detect a ship in hyperspace. So, a ship flying about at warp will be completely defenseless when a jump point suddenly opens, and a Whitestar comes out of hyperspace with its guns blazing. How good are sheilds when you cant get them up after massive damage to your fragile science vessels?
