Does this put a big crimp is the SW arguments or is it just me?The entire starfleet couldn't destroy the whole planet. It'd take a thousand ships with more fire power than I've...

Unquoted quote
Han Solo said in ANH
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"
- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist
"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

Not really. From what I've read around here everyone is always talking about Imperial ships being able to slag the surface of a planet deep enough that everything is destroyed, everything is dead (even microbes) and all that is left is a burnt out lump of slagg. As nasty as that is, it is different than shattering a planet into a bunch of "small" pieces.
I'm sure someone here can explain it better in mathematical terms but this is just what I've gotten from reading these boards for awhile. I could be off though.

It was a statement of disbelieve
just like "never in a million years" and then my 6 year old program the
VCR that I been working on for a week.. Han was a smuggler ( and was a former Navy pilot, but had no knowledge of the deathstar), and not an expert on the true capablities of the Imperial navy..
He was also trend to comment on alot of thing he hand no knowledge about.. Like in ROTJ, " Kid there a lot of command ships", when at the time only 5 of that class was buildt. And like to brag, like on how fast the Falcon was ( proven wrong when was overhaul by a pair of star destroyers in ESB)..
So I find that rebel scum to be a very unreliable source...

Its like Abddons planet killer in 40K
They were horrified because things were totally destroyed even though practically every cap ship can sterilize a planet and melt it's surface

From this quote, one can clearly deduce that he doesn't mean 1000 ISD. One ISD doesn't HAVE more fire power than he has ever *** (known? seen?) since he HAS seen ISDs.
Chances are that he even heard of SSDs (if they were invented already), so he probably didn't even mean THAT kind of ships. But even if that was the case, the empire might not have a thousand Executor-class ships. That doesn't mean it doesn't have over 1,000 ISDs, does it?
I think this puts a lid on the "empire has 1000 ships" argument.

Didn't Han Solo also say "that's too big to be a space station" when he first saw the Death Star?
The almighty god Solo is right! If he says so, it's true!
Therefore it's a moon. The Empire has super magical powers to make moons shoot planet killing death rays and will therefore win against anyone.

Also, the imperial fleet at the time of ANH = 1> fullpower DS blast
"It was likely that the Emperor would use every means at his disposal to destroy the Rebels. Even before the Death Star, he had more than enough firepower to wipe out whole planets. Many, many people were going to die, and often the Alliance would have to just let it happen."
(ref: Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
ALL portions of the imperial armed forces doubled, including the starfleet, this means that the imperial starfleet in the time between ANH and TESB doubled, and now the imperial starfleet = 2> fullpower DS blasts
Recently, the might of the Empire has grown with frightening speed. Since the destruction of the Death Star, the Emperor has shifted the focus of his limitless military and industrial power almost exclusively toward crushing this upstart Rebellion; as a result, the Imperial Armed Forces have nearly doubled in strength."
(ref: Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
Give away 99.99% to superweapons and you're still left with a fleet capable of dishing out petatons of firepower and numbers over a hundred million ships.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not.
I agree (in fact I've said as much myself before now ).Slartibartfast wrote: A-ha!

All this tells us is that it is 'impossible' for the starfleet to gather enough firepower in one place to completly blow a planet away - not that the theoretical combined firepower isn't enough to do the job.
Also that it'd take 1000 of the largest class of warship (prior to the DS1) to do the job, but tell's us nothing about the small ISDs.

I fail to see any problems with this line of reasoning. Think applying this magic to a planet-sized object would give you a star killer?Evil Jerk wrote:Didn't Han Solo also say "that's too big to be a space station" when he first saw the Death Star?
