American positions under heavy attack?

Post by weemadando »

Searching for more info. Heard reports of heavy mortar barrage and multiple explosions in one of the US airbases in Iraq.

Thats all I can find for now. Though it could be that the other news sites haven't updated. I'll check around again later...

Sounds like 120mm mortar fire to me (smaller wouldn't set off a 'huge explosion'. That also tells me they're using vehicles, you can't manpack a 120mm (even the lightweight American models). They should put artillery radars around the bases and have some of their own mortars ready to deliver counter-battery fire the moment they see the incoming rounds on the screen. Of course, having mortar teams constantly on duty is a problem.

It oddly seems to be only in Australian and Islamic sources despite being eight hours old, but to have rather wide coverage in those sources.

I'm temtped to say that it is yet another case of "sweep it under the carpet" or "selective coverage" courtesy of the US military and the mainstream media.

Well, there are dozens of attacks per day- only the ones with killed or wounded actually make it on the news.
