I'd definitely vote for Arnold if I lived in California. A fiscal conservative is precisely what California needs to reduce its debt and start stabilizing economically. I'm a moderate Republican too, so I square with most of his policies.

Be careful with blind loyalty to one party. It's usually best to check out all your options, you just might find something you would have missed otherwise. And it's not like it takes all that much effort to listen to what the guy says in a speech, or posts on a website.

Arnold is both exactly what California WANTS and what California NEEDS.

-He is VERY supportive of gay rights and pro-choice, two issues which I agree with him on.

-He has good business sense. He didn't get along with just his Hotshot movies all his life. In his early years, he made some pretty damn good investment and financial decisions which pretty much meant that he didn't HAVE to resort to acting to make big bucks.

Granted, "business sense" and "politics" are two different grains of sand, but it shows that the man has a level head, which is what I think is most important.

What clinches it for me is the fact that his detractors, quite simply, know next-to-nothing about him. "Oh, he's an actor, what does he know?" "Oh, he has a funny accent, so he couldn't POSSIBLY be intelligent!" "Oh, he played 'da Terminator', so there's no chance he's got a brain!"

I remember that! There used to be posters of Arnold all over the place in elementary school urging students to stay in shape. He also did these excercise videos for kids and stuff.

I think it's quite clear that Arnold is not some mindless muscle-head. What he lacks in direct experience, in my opinion, he makes up for with intelligence and, most importantly, integrity.

Marina, I'm rooting for Ah-nuld as much as you apparently are. But even I wouldn't call that experience. Honestly his campaigning for various intiatives in California matters more than that.

Although I live on the other side of country, and can't vote anyway, I'd say Arnold might have a chance at becoming governor. Pretty much the only obstacle might be a few people who, despite agreeing with his policies, would say "Ewww! A Republican! Cooties!" and vote for Larry Flynt.

Except it's not just any old law, this is the Constitution you're talking about.

Regardless of who is running, I do not support changing the Constitution for the favor of any politician. It doesn't matter to me if it's Hillary Clinton or Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Everyone here agrees that Arnie will likely be a better governor than Davis, and I am one of them. However, he has said that he's not going to raise taxes OR cut programs. If that's true, how is the budget going to get better? Not to mention he wants to bring back businesses to California, but many of them are gone because of the programs he doesn't want to eliminate.

I just thought of something: If the US took over Austria and added it to the union, would Arnold be eligible for the presidency? After all, if he was from Austria and it became part of the union, that would technically make him from the US.

Besides putting a smack down on waste fraud and abuse? He is an advocate of bringing back bussiness to California. The more companies that are there, the more tax revenue that is derived from them, the less the people have to pony up to run the state.

I thought the requirement was that you had to be a "naturalized" American. Which to me sounds pretty ambiguous.

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

So unless Arnold was born before 1783, he ain't becoming President.

My problem with his campaign is that from the statements and articles about his campaign, he's less trying to sell himself as a credible politican, but rather as the Governator, which tons of gratuitous popular movie quotes but suprisingly little signal to noise. That isn't trying to prove he's the best person for the job of governer, but rather to get people to vote based on the fact that he's a movie star who's really in and really hip and right now.

And the bad thing is that it's probably going to work. Oh, well, I don't live in California, so it isn't my problem.
