I'm seriously wondering how long it will be until conspiracy theories start coming out about a US weather control system that's being used to punish the French for not supporting Iraq.

But the government didn't, right?

The previous figures were believable, but 3000 people dying from extreme heat is quite a statistic, in my opinion.

It's a conspiracy theory, such facts are irrelevant.

Apparently most of the dead are among the very young or very old, though it's still strange, considering we've had such weather in the UK and our casualty levels aren't nearly as high (4 or 5, AFAIK)

They're French. I'm guessing they were going something like,

"We are French! We are above this heat! *croak* "

I mean...water, shade, light clothes...how can you at least not have two of these things?

Either that or France is filled with more poor people than it wants us to believe.

Gosh, I live like 2 countries east of France and I was enjoying a nice 25 degrees Celsius throughout the most of the summer. I know its a different climate but still...

Didn't Stalin say, "One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic" or something like that?

I figure 3000 works well enough.

Besides, 3000? Geez, nobody ever heard of water, staying indoors, and a fan, or maybe A/C over there?

Honestly, there is no truly conceivable way THREE THOUSAND people can die of heat stroke. That's WAY too much. Something's got to be up, and I think most can agree that the French have been too ignorant for their own good.

Storm, I'm sure she's staying in a hotel or someplace with A/C. I never understood Europe's lack of A/C. I could not survive a single hot humid day in NYC without it.

I'm sure she knows the value of good water, shade, and light clothes.

She'll be fine.

To those French who've died, I'm not so sure.

Them and those damn small town Mass people...one reason I'll never again visit my cousins up there in the summer, unless I stay in a hotel.

Here in Britain you might need A/C for one week a year which isn't really enough time to justify spending money on anything more than a couple of fans. This year we've had maybe 3 weeks where A/C might be needed.

Stravo, Shinova,

I know all that. And I'm sure she'll do fine but the news like that gets to me anyway. Just one of those things you can't really help.

You're saying that the British are genetically superior to the French? This I like. :)
