Speaking of the navy, compared to the army on the ground I figure the navy people must be basking in the sun not doing too much over there, compared to the army and the marines.
Just my thought. We're not hearing anything like complaints from Navy people.

Navy's used to long-ass deployments. They go out for six months or so on ships during a sea tour. So do the Marines with the MEUs.
As far as I know, generally speaking, the Army doesn't really do that. If they do go overseas, they can generally take their families with them, except for a few spots (such as Korea and Saudi Arabia to name a couple, IIRC). So they're probably not as used to an extended deployment as the Sailors and Marines are.

I heard 1st Marine's been kinda pissy recently...apparently they were told they were done when they got back to the US, and now they're being told they may go back in a month. Got a buddy who's a tanker in that unit, and he said morale's as low as he's ever seen it, because the REMFs keep lying to them about deployment lengths and leave times.
And I've also heard that the time for a commander to start worrying is when the soldiers stop bitching. If that's true, than the war in Iraq is going just hunky-dory. Somehow I doubt that.

Reminds me of a Doonesbury cartoon from the first gulf war. A bunch of army grunts sweating away in the desert heat are listening to one of their comrade's read a letter from home. When he reads the last part of her telling him "....We all appreciate what you soldiers and sailors are doing!"
He's met with boos and hisses from his buddies. When he asks whats up, they tell him he said a dirty word. What was the dirty word he replies?
"Sailors!!!" in loud unison is his answer
Cut to final cartoon panel of sailors sitting around on ship drinking sodas, relaxing, and smoking. One of them asking "Hey chief! Turn the A/C down some more" and another one chiming in "Who's up for some shuffleboard?"
