Looks like we're ready to start clamping down on the Saudis.

Thoughts?

I dunno, it seems like a rather large leap to go from 'filling up SPR' to 'clamping down on the KSA'

For that matter, the filling of the SPR has been ongoing since before the war, IIRC.

Good, I don't see any reason why we should pay to maintain it yet only keep the thing half full. I however don't think this indicates any kind of invasion or crack down coming up in the near future.

I'm sure it has been ongoing, but only since May have we been filling it up at such a rapid rate.

Higher oil prices are certainly not hot electoral property. It may be a message to the Saudis (your services as an oil supplier are no longer needed, now clean up your act).

700 million barrels. that should eliminate out need for saudi oil. for a month. This will be won, and should be won the way we win everything else...with technology. Hybrid cars and fuel cells. oh i hope i live to see the day when we tell the saudi's to take their oil and go fuck off.

It needs to be refilled. Didn't Clinton release it during the last price spike only to find that it had no effect whatsoever on prices?

Clinton's release was about equal to the amount of oil the nation used in a day and did jack shit. However when oil is released from the reserve the oil companies that get it must replace it a few months later on using there own resources, that's not why the reserve needs to be filled. It simply never reached capacity in the first place.
