OK, let's suppose you're Saddam Hussein. Your army has been disbanded, your government is gone, your sons have been killed, roving teams of well-armed US military personnel are out to bring your head home as a trophy, and you live your life ducking from one miserable hideout to the next, always trying to stay one step ahead of the creeping hand of death.
So what's your next move? If you were him, what would you do now?

Shave my mustache, get facial surgery and lay low for a while; then dead-baby myself into a European country's database system, emigrate to Hawaii and spend the rest of my life sipping mai-tais on the beach and laughing at Dubya.

Africa sounds good this season, Idi Amin has just left and everything... But first some surgery is in order, the moustache is a dead give-away.
With the money Saddam has ammased, he could live his life in luxury on some obscure place without much trouble for the next decades, he just couldn't get out much.

Welll, that's assuming he is still alive, from what I heard he died first day of strikes (remember the bunker bomb with 30+tomahawks)
But if we suppose he is alive and in hiding then what he should do is lead one last charge against the americans with the forces still loyal to him, if he wins the propaganda from this is huge, and if you are killed you can become a national folk hero spurring on the spirit to continue fighting.

Assuming I was still in the country and didn't escape to Palestine or somewhere like that.
I'd actually send a feeler to negotate my surrender to the US. Conditions: I was to live in exile under US protective custody, and I got to keep $50,000,000. In exchange, I come totally clean on everything.
I actually think his suspected tunnel network exsists, and he used it to leave the country (at least, I would have built one over the last 10 years if I was him)
Either that, or get a nuke, drive into Baghdad, and press the button

I don't know if he could find refuge anywhere. If any nation tried to shield him publicly, they'd bring down the wrath of the US on their heads, and it would be difficult to conceal him. I doubt even Saudi Arabia could get away with protecting him; if they do, the Administration might just decide that it's time to clean house.

Change my looks, hide in a small country and either enjoy the rest of my life or enjoy it plus publish a book bragging how I survived.
If I'm stupid enough I'll secretly gather forces, take over Iraq announcing my 'revival', and enjoy rest of my life reviving Persia or get bombed to death again.

True, but he thinks of himself as a James Bond like charecter. So I wouldn't put it past him to think he could take out an army patrol if he wanted to.StimNeuro wrote:I doubt that Saddam is altruistic enough to sacrifice himself for the good of the country...Straha wrote:Welll, that's assuming he is still alive, from what I heard he died first day of strikes (remember the bunker bomb with 30+tomahawks)

We'll considering how "unpopular" the US is in the Mid East right now I would stay in hiding and continue to to issue these tapes while trying to wriggle myself up into the top position of a Anti-US Islam/Arab terror organization. Eventually the U.S. will pull out of Iraq (probably due to how unpopular the occupation is becoming); and when they do it will seem as if I, and my organization are responsible for it. This of course will result in my return to power and even greater popularity. If the popularity is great enough, the possibility of becoming the head of an Arab/Islamic super state, modeled after the EU is completly reasonable, the justification for such a move would be "to oppose the imperialist ambitions of the US and any other nation".
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Certainly not turn myself in, that's for sure.

Of the posts I've seen so far, no one seems to understand that Saddam dosen't so much care about the money and comfortable life as he does about the power and revenge. Saddam would rather risk death at the hands of the Americans then give up his opportunity to humiliate America by a return to power. If all Saddam wanted was riches and confort then he could have left Iraq, with his sons, when Bush issued the ultimadum, to Saddam, to leave Iraq (and take his sons with him) back before the war started.

Was the question not "What would I do if I were Saddam?" Well, that's what I'd do if I were Saddam. Trying for revenge would just get me killed.

This is not a come out with "guns blazing" plot, but rather a plot that relies on patience, you let Iraqi hatred towards America simmer, while simultaneiously letting Americans get sick of losing young men occupying Iraq.Gil Hamilton wrote:Was the question not "What would I do if I were Saddam?" If I were Sadaam, and thus used to being told "yes" every where I go. I would wait things out cause I know the longer I wait, the more Americans that die, the sooner the pussy Americans will leave. Of course I will get old and die before this happens. But Sadam's basic problem is he still doesnt "get it" when it comes to how to use military power.

Well, In Arabic mentality, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' so it would be sensible to go to Osama-- such a move would strike fear into Americans, even though it would offer validation of Administration claim.
Saddam is no idiot, he could go to Syria or Palestine but those places cannot defend against an American onslaught any more than Iraq could. He has too much bad blood with the Iranians to go there. He might go to North Korea tho, but he couldn't do much.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Iraq has pleanty of places for him to bide his time. Many Bathists who had good jobs and good lives under him (which they lost when America invaded) would, in all likely hood, be more then willing to hide him as a form of revenge against America. Hell, more then likely a good proportion of the people attacking American soldiers in Iraq come from this group.

Keep running and fighting with all available resources that could be contacted. As long as the guerrilla war continues, there's a chance the U.S. might withdraw before the new government is firmly in place--and if I can survive that long, then maybe I can overthrow the new government and regain power. Concentrate attacks on infrastructure to make the U.S. look inefficient and unable to get the country working again, lowering their own popularity; keep my image out in the press so that I remain and appear to be a viable option to rule the country.Darth Wong wrote:OK, let's suppose you're Saddam Hussein.
