What is the most wonderful place on Earth to visit?
My wife and I are planning a vacation for next spring, and want to do something we haven't done before.
Since we have a fairly international community here, and a few world-travellers, I thought I'd get everyone's opinion as to where the nicest place to visit is, considering local customs, geography, stable political structure, safety, etc.
So, what is it? And bear in mind, we're a couple of Canadians, so suggesting we go to Toronto, although nice, isn't what we're looking for. I think it would be summed up best as, "Non-threatening Adventure With A Hilton".

Impossible to answer. Every country in the world has something beautiful to offer.
However, since I'm a Euro myself, I'd like to travel to somewhere in Asia to experience something that wouldn't be close to my own country.

Yes, visit the lovely urban sprawl of New York City. Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Times Square...
You could also go see Ground Zero...
For the full flavor of the City, take the red line to Penn at rush hour!

Antarctica. One of the few land spots not infested by humans. Nice weather too.
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

Did a trip to Thailand last year, amazing country with excelent scuba diving.
I am not much into culture but the buddist monistary that I visited was a nice change.
But then the thai army run shooting range was fun.
~$20us to rent a automatic pistol don't know the brand and 100 rounds.

Hmmm non threatening?
Well NYC is fun(I like going there...hectic but full of stuff to do).
Orient is good, but you have to get a real lay of language helps greatly.
Not much about Europe, so cannot say...though I hear good stories from friends.
DC is sorta NYC seriously...but not as lively...but has all sorts of historical knicknack sights(I still like NYC...mostly because I live in DC...and interacting with interns and the rare congressman dulls me a bit)
Hmmm...I guess I'd say NYC, but for far off adventure Seoul/Tokyo are very nice as well.

well, i can only reccomend places i have been, so
In North America: Miami is wild. Tropical, vibrant, diverse and a little dangerous. If you have money to burn hit south beach. if you want to have fun without blowing the bank drive a little north to hollywood and ft. lauderdale New York is..... well New York. it simply MUST be experienced at least once in your lifetime. Boston is old and creeky and people can't drive for shit....but in some places it is like going back in time. and it is marvelous. DC is cool. the government and historical sites are cool, and the subway is the best i've seen. Plus you are really close to many more historical delights in Baltimore and Northern Virginia. Be careful though, the neighborhoods go downhill fast. Montreal i have waxed poetic many times on that fair city. A clean safe place to have a dirty dangerous time.
In Europe: sadly my European travels are limited to Ireland. Go pub crawling in Dublin. see the crystal plant in Waterford. Go sailing on Dingle Bay and try and drive down the country roads in Mayo without breaking something.

The Dominican Republic is a beautiful place to visit. It's got history, it's got beaches, it's got tropical weather (So go during winter, when it's a bit cooler and a lot drier), it's got some urban sprawl, but it's poor as hell. The people, however, are great to foreigners.
Spain's also a beautiful place, the dry, almost desert climate to the South, with beautiful cities such as Malaga and Granada (this town also has the Alhambra), wide open plains in the center, cool, wet mountains to the North, and with a whole load of history to boot.
I'd recommend Israel, too. Don't listen to the media, they blow shit there way out of proportion. Everything is within a few hours of each other, it's pretty easy to get a visa to Jordan and visit the necropolis at Petra, and the people are a lot friendlier than you're lead to believe (this includes the Palestinians.)

I don't really care for travelling out of the US, except for places like Great Britain or Australia or some places in Europe. Alot of places that I might want to go to are utter tourist traps. I briefly went to the Philippeans once... and outside of the resort, they seem to be very careful to keep tourists in carefully guarded areas of Manila. Partly because they they can't guarantee the safety of tourists outside of such areas, but also because they really don't want them to see what a third-world rathole the country is. But I understand the President is very good at making speechs about vengence against the Abu Sayaaf, with phrases like "Bullets will fall like rain" and stuff.
Plus there were monkeys everywhere, which is alot less fun than it sounds, since one came very close to taking a shit on me.

1. A tour of American Civil War Battlefields. Lots o' them in Virginia.
2. DISNEYLAND!!!
3. St Augustine, Florida. Pretty beaches, and the oldest city in North America.
4. A week in West Virginia: White Water Rafting on the New River, scenic overlooks from the top of the Gorge, 4-Star Dining at Class IV River Runners, and more.
(you knew I'd mention WV sooner or later

Let's see, Nova Scotia's a nice quiet place to visit, the seaside scenery's amazing and everyone's nice & friendly, well, I think locals are friendly everywhere but anyways. The Bay of Fundy is always a fun place to visit, as is the town of Antigonish not far from where I grew up.
Utah and New Mexico must be seen at some point in you life, the Grand Canyon and other sandstone formations are just simply breathtaking. Take a raft ride down the river if you can, it's one of those life changing things.
Nepal and Peru will be amaing places to visit once things settle down, there's Maoist rebel activity going on in Nepal and Peru's having some issues too so they're probably not the safest places to visit. But by god the history you can see, Peru with it's ancient ruins and Nepal with it's misty mountains in the clouds dotted with villages.
Vancouver and California are to be visited for their giant trees, the Vancouver area has huge Cedars that take several people to put their arms around and California has even larger Redwood trees. You stand there in the middle of a forest feeling like you've been zapped with a shrink-ray.
Those are the places that stand out in my mind, I've been to so many incredible places that it would take me ages to cover them.

Britian was fun, although the highway was the size of a small suburban street. Lots of sights and fun stuff to do.
I would also recommend Japan; easy to go from uber-urban megacity to quiet rural scenary in a few hours. Nice people, and...interesting modern culture, lots and lots of things to do; but avoid a No(sp?) play at all costs.
Of course, if your budget is a bit tight, you could always try Philadelphia, *the* historical American city.
