Incas vs Aztecs
Here's a force sub that I hope hasn't been done yet:
Somehow, Atahualpa and his army find themselves facing Montezuma and his army. The battle takes place on an open field. No disease factor.
Which empire triumphs? Obsidian or Bronze?

Might as well, if not for scanty evidence on my part. The Aztecs are definatly the most well documented Mesoamerican society, so I'll stick with them. I am also taking in minjd the fact that the Maya as an Empire had fallen by the time the Spanish came around (who got their asses handed to them initially anyway)Superman wrote:Why not through the Maya in there as well? Most anthropologists now agree that they were a warlike civilization as well.

IIRC, the aztecs really outnumbered the inca population, and were some crazy mamma jammas, mucho human sacrifice. So i'll say the Aztecs.

Mayan civilization collapsed on its own a couple hundred years before the Inca and Aztec reached their heights, which was just before being crushed by the Spanish. As I recall the Maya cities where also basically independent city states rather then parts of a single Empire.Superman wrote:Why not through the Maya in there as well? The only reason the Spanish even came close was because not only were the palefaces considered reincarnations of the god Quetzalcoatl, the Aztecs were so brutal that many of their subject peoples helped the Spaniards out if only to get rid of their oppressors.Arrow Mk84 wrote:And then the Spainish show up and kill them all anyway...
From my limited knowledge on this subject, I'll take the Aztecs.

I said not because of disease, but because the Spainish were much more efficient killers.Slartibartfast wrote:NO DISEASE FACTORArrow Mk84 wrote:And then the Spainish show up and kill them all anyway...

Smallpox and measles were the number one cause of death for native american warriors, specially their leaders. And they were in a state of rebellion at the time too... so they weren't really much more efficient killers, unless you believe that europeans stopped bathing as a war strategy. (AFAIK it was because the Church said that bathing was bad because you touched yourselfArrow Mk84 wrote:I said not because of disease, but because the Spainish were much more efficient killers.Slartibartfast wrote:NO DISEASE FACTORArrow Mk84 wrote:And then the Spainish show up and kill them all anyway...

I'm assuming your'e talking about the siege of Tenochtitlan? Their first true battle was La Noche Trieste. Either way, Cortez was lucky to have his heart still inside his body. In fact, this is the basis for an essay in that wonderful book, What If?. It's really quite facinating.Arrow Mk84 wrote:I might be wrong, but when the Spainish and the Aztecs first fought, the Aztecs tried to fight like they always did - bully your enemy into submission and take him as a slave. The Spainish just started shooting.
