And this is nothing less than an ad hominem attack. I don't see you rushing to join the US military and getting a billet in the ROK. Newsflash: nobody likes the plight of the DPRK's peasants, but nobody wants a second Korean War and the devestation it would inflict, either.

Furthermore, how many of those peasants are going to die if war breaks out? Do you think the DPRK's military is going to keep giving them whatever food they have in storage? Hell no, that's going to the front lines - leaving the peasants to starve. By the time the DPRK's military is finished with there will be a huge refugee exodus to China - and feeding that horde might well be impossible in time.

30,000 infantry would indicate a much larger force then we've actually got there, most of those 37,000 man force is in support roles. In terms of actual combat forces we've got two infantry brigades, six artillery battalions, two tank battalions along two F-16 squadrons in South Korea. Meanwhile a single year, 1998 as I recall, the ROK once disbanded three infantry divisions and one tank and one artillery brigade. The threat of a ground invasion from the North is minimal and any attack would be defeated short of the capital and before the real weight of American military power could arrive.
