A thread for Sovereign next time he chooses to grace us

First off, I dislike the word "canon" and don't use it. However, if you mean "Does the TNG Tech Manual totally jibe with everything ever seen or heard in the Star Trek series or feature films?", then the answer is no.
From Rick Sternbach, the author.

Well DUH. I always respected Sterbach, he's a pretty smart guy. Personaly I think that the TMs are useful for information not imediately available in the series. Furthermore they make good supporting information when contraditory canon information comes about.
"If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If neither is on your side, pound on the table."

"The captain claimed our people violated a 4,000 year old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation."

If the Technical Manuals were canon then we'd have a problem, because there's information in the shows which directly contradict it. Fans can decide to throw out one piece of canon information or another in the event of a contradiction and give reasoning for it, but the fact remains that there's conflicting information from what's supposed to be an absolutely true source. That creates more than a few logic problems. There's enough of that trying to reconcile Star Trek (or Wars) with itself onscreen without throwing a book into the fray.
TrekWars: The Furry Conflict. A unique and inventive mix of "Trek" and "Wars"--with some fur to add color.
"Most Awesome Guy in the Universe" "proof that folks can become much better..."
"wait people being polite... am I sure I am logged into SDN?" ~Sometimes truth defies reason.

Agreed, but since I have now seen Sovereign and Virus X argung differently, I figured I put out the authors confirmation to everyone for future use

I think my post to the FAQ from Paramount's own Star Trek Website stating paramounts exact canon policy did the job just fine.
