How to build a SW ship with spare parts

Post by Slartibartfast »

I'm doing a little fan project, sorta fan-fiction related to Star Wars. It involves transforming an '80 Datsun Stanza station-wagon into a spaceship roughly with the same power as a X-Wing, with a funnier look.

What I need are ideas to rationalize *how* is this transformation possible, using existing SW technology if possible. It isn't about building it from scratch from Terran-tech, it can use stolen parts (or remains from a crash site, like a TIE fighter) and even the help of an astromech robot (or what's left of it).

One of my main concerns is about hull integrity: how to modify something best described as an aluminum can, into a hull that can withstand atmospheric entry and blaster fire like any other unshielded ship, without completely changing its look. Not to mention the rubber tires (replace them with super-galacto-rubber? UberRubber(tm)?)

I already considered basically welding a rocket pack onto the roof and just firing it into the sky 8)

Visuals are important because I'm making the script for a short computer-generated adventure in 3D.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I noticed this could belong into the Fan Fiction forum, instead of here. Sorry.
