How do I make it so that the light doesn't light up the inside walls and lights up only the table and parts of the window? (I'm using a single light source, a spotlight, in this scene)
That's the main problem I have. Is there anything else that should be done to improve this?

You might be having a problem with the model of the wall... It shouldn't be lit up to the left like that unless there's some sort of mess error or something like that.

If you're usinf LW, start studying Global Illumination (AKA radiosity).
It is possible to fake it with well placed spots around the interior, though, one for each wall, ceiling and floor, with low intensity values.
