Richard Butler (yes, that one...)

Has been appointed as Governor of Tasmania.

Well, I have a lot of personal respect for the man, and with the exception of Boonie, I can't think of a better choice.

This is the same man who pulled out weapons inspectors not on the say so of his boss, but from Washington. There is nothing special about Richard AFAICS. Why do you have so much respect for him?

Several reasons. He's a republican, if you read up on it he pulled out BECAUSE of Washington, not on their say-so and for once we have a well educated and genuine figure as a vice-regal, not some-one who's just there because they won't cause waves.

Hmmm...

Interesting new development pointed out by a friend.

Now that he is a vice-Regal appointee, he can no longer testify in front of the Australian Senate Inquest into whether or not the Gov't falsified claims about Iraqi ability.
