The miracle of air conditioning

Post by Hamel »

For the past few days, I've had to make trips into town in excruciatingly hot weather with malfunctioning a/c. Rolling down the window is required if I want to breathe, but that invites a mass of pollen into my nostrils, therefore making me miserable.

I took the car in, had some freon pumped, and had a nice chat with the car guy. He's an independent repairman. Charges a good rate for labor, and doesn't rip you off. When I took the car home it felt like I was in my old Cadillac once again. What a difference a/c makes.

Anywho, who else has had recent car troubles?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

My air conditioning is very good for a 1990 Volvo. Takes a while to warm up, though.

My mom's car, though, I swear you could hang meat in there. Freezing cold, even on low settings.

Well, the A/C on my Oldsmobile never really worked in the first place.

The Thunderbird? Don't ask. I spent thousands trying to fix it to no avail. It did work for a while before breaking again, and I'm not taking it back to the incompetent bullshit artist that fixed it in the first place.

My current car, the Nissan, used to be my fathers so he kept the A/C in good running condition. Gets nice and chilly in there, but a fan belt or something needs to be replaced since the thing causes a screeching sound at times.

I haven't been in any cars with AC problems in a while. Though my area is full of stop and go traffic so it can take a damn long time for the car to cool off. But there's really toning that can be done about that.

The T-Bird's AC is amazing. In like two seconds the car turns from damn-near melting to an arctic paradise. We caught a penguin. Roasted him up good, too. You shoulda been there.

The Lebaron's seen better times not only in the way of the AC but practically everything else. That's just cause my Dad's a cheapskate though.

Hmm... for the past month, I've replaced the front brakes and rotors, last thursday I replaced the battery and on Friday had the car towed to the shop because the starter KFC'd. Past month's repair bill total? $500. What's on the agenda for next month? Oil change, Transmission fluid flush and refilled and replacing the water in the colling system with coolant. What's on the agenda by year's end? Tire replacement, rear brake replacement, brake line replacement, ball joint replacement.

Oh yeah, my A/C is broken.

The A/C's fine in my car but I had a fan resister blow. Luckily that was under warrenty. The big fucking hole in my washer fluid tank wasn't though. That cost a few bucks. And to top it off, I drove out of the place and some truck on the highway kicked up a rock and cracked my windshield.

I live in San Antonio, and can't imagine how anybody ever lived here before the invention of A/C.

I had to recently replace the coolent overflow tank on my Honda. It was like 40 bucks for the part. It was cracked by the knobs at Walmart. I swear Im never paying them to change my oil again. Not only did I have trouble but 2 of my friends had trouble with their cars afterward. Vote with your dollar I say.

As for my A/C Im sure it could a recharge.

For me the fan died and that caused the coolant to reach the temperature that it partially melted the coolant reservoir. Fortunately, the coolant didn't seep into the engine or it would've cost me $800-900 to have the head gasket replaced.
