What's so hard to interpret? He said that he believes in prayer in school and that schools should be able to "decide what religion they belong." That's a massive violation of the establishment clause. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:<snip>
You have to remember that it was Sean Hannity giving the interview. I listened to a segment of it, and I suspect that the reason why Arnold said he was in favour of prayer in schools is because of the wording of the question. This was his exact response:
Admittedly, it's hard to interpet, but from that I'd get the idea that his conceptualization of prayer in schools is allowing students to pray as they desire, regardless of religion, and even that being up to the individual school district."I believe in prayer in school and I think it should be up to the schools, you know, what religion they belong and what direction they want to go,"

He might not make a big deal about it but he's a regular church goer and contributes, quietly, to Christian charities. He's a religious man but isn't some one that feels the need to shout it from the roof tops. I might disagree with his veiw vehemently and it is unconstitutional. But I at least give him credit for honestly holding his veiws.Darth Wong wrote:His positions are perfectly suited to the Republican party's game plan for California; I find it highly unlikely that he just happens to hold that precise set of views (especially the bit about school prayer, which is not only unconstitutional but normally indicative of much more than the usual religious fervour, from a man who has never expressed anything of the sort).Stormbringer wrote:Or he might be one of those fable creatures, the moderate Republican.

Yeah. There's no question he's in favor of the so called voluntary school prayer. It's illegal as hell and has been struck down several times now. I guess some people just won't quit.Durandal wrote:What's so hard to interpret? He said that he believes in prayer in school and that schools should be able to "decide what religion they belong." I dont think he will get the Sacramento or San Francisco metros. But I would not be surprised if he gets the smaller towns farther north.Darth Fanboy wrote:I think it will be interesting to see how much support he gets north of Sacramento, Im betting he will win So Cal, but up NOrth might be Bustamante country.

What sort of moderate?? Moderately right-winged (as in "between slightly right-winged and extremely right-winged") or just moderate in general??Durran Korr wrote:Most Republicans are moderate on economic issues these days.Stormbringer wrote:Or he might be one of those fable creatures, the moderate Republican.

Re: Schwartzeneggar on the Issues.
I agree with Red Imperator here that even debating this issue is silly, illegal aliens are NOT Americans and therefore they do not have the same rights as Americans. If an illegal alien shows up at the DMV for his/her DL then they should be detained there and sent back to where they came from.RedImperator wrote:Should this even be an issue? As for Arnold's other views, they are well within the moderates range and what is so hard to believe about that?

Re: Schwartzeneggar on the Issues.
Driving isn't even a right; it's a privilege reserved for American citizens or legal residents. It's a no-brainer that illegal immigrants shouldn't be here (that's why they're illegal), much less get driver's licenses.Death from the Sea wrote:I agree with Red Imperator here that even debating this issue is silly, illegal aliens are NOT Americans and therefore they do not have the same rights as Americans.
