I never had summer reading, but I did have shit I had to read during the school year:

The Great Gatsby
Far From the Maddening Crowd
Romeo and Juliet
(can't rember the name, but about these gay guys during WWII one falls down some stairs and then dies I think, occasionally blitzball, utter trash)

Although I have read some good ones, I liked The Hot Zone and Huck Finn, and Midsummer Night's Dream wasn't bad. And ofcourse last year we had to read a book on our own and then do a book project ever six weeks(except for Gatsby and Huck Finn), thats where I read the good stuff, Two Towers, Mostly Harmless, one of the Lost Years of Merlin Books, Jurassic Park 2.

I was supposed to read The Iliad and be done with it two and a half weeks ago. Yay four more books to go! I like the book but come on, it's the samething over and over again. Someone gets stabed and "...darkness fell over his eyes." or "...and his armor rattled around him as he fell." Ya, I know it's a poem but still. Then theres the fact that hundreds of guys you never knew where alive die. But Homer tells you about his life, where he was born, who his unknown parents were, and other facts that make the book drag. And I think the same guy died like three or four times. Hipp or hypp something. Then there is the part where they say a damn long paragraph in the middle of battle. Shouldn't they be fighting or dodging some spear? Hell if no one attacks the guy who is talking, just talk and walk to the gates of Troy! It takes forever for the story to move along in the begining. Sorry, venting my anger.

My english teacher through High School was a southern Transplant...

Lots of Plot, Lots of Faulknor, Hemingway, & Tennesse Williams....

Not to mention the other English Teacher getting kicked out of school, and sent to jail for his Nabakov extra credit assignments...
