I'd cut him some slack and say that he's a coolheaded intellectual who just so happens to hate people more than most misanthropes. After all, those who hunt animals aren't exactly psychopaths.
My favorite part is when he's covered in blood after eating the guards and is waving his hands, moved by the classical music playing. I think it portrays the augmentation of his insanity by his genius very well.

I don't think he's a connoissuer of violence the way I am. I drink in the effects of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Bundy, and to a lesser extent GTAIII like a man of fine wines.
