Some people's twisted concept of trust

Post by Slartibartfast »

I'm incredibly pissed. Sometimes you consider a person your friend, even best friend, somebody you could trust, and then their true selves is revealed for some really stupid thing.

The story goes like this: the guy decides to go with her GF for independence day to some distant town (think driving from Miami to Orlando, but gas is three times more expensive and there aren't really any major stops). To add to this, she lies to her parents (she's not underage, but she's living with them) about *where* they are going and tells them some other place nearby.

So what happens is that he phones me from his cellphone, telling me somebody shot at his tires and stole his money and keys, and that I MUST go there and rescue him. Bring his extra pair of keys etc... it's a two hour-drive, at 11 pm, I don't have money for gas, my tires are completely crap (they almost came apart when trying to go HALF that distance) and other misc things about my car that could and often go wrong. I say I can't make it, my GF is with me and says it would be stupid and crazy to risk that (and I agree) specially if they have been robbed, in this time of year where this kind of thing is common. So I advise them to call her GF's parents, who have money and should care enough to rescue their daughter. Or get his car towed or whatever.

(Yes, it's extremely stupid to drive more than a hundred KM or so out of town, alone - meaning without taking another friend and his car along - let alone in important holidays, and leaving your house at 8 PM. If I'm not going to be stupid to do it because I feel like it, I'm definitely not going to do it to rescue some friend who was stupid enough to do it, AND he got in trouble for doing it)

So he manages to call the girlfriend's parents, get them to pick them up or whatever, and they are fine and home, healthy and alive, but he's ANGRY AT ME! He says the trust has been broken and some other horseshit about not knowing who to rely on anymore.

ME, I'm untrustful! I'm being a bad friend! So not only do I drive him around in my car before he bought his, and lend him 50-100 dollars (a buttload of money, no strings attached, no interest and no deadline to pay me back) so he can eat for a month, and help him move out of his house moving ALL HIS FUCKING FURNITURE in my station-wagon, and help him move BACK INTO his house, again with the furniture, and buy from him that stupid useless digital camera for 60 bucks just because I know he's penniless... now he doesn't trust me enough to get him out of trouble every time and he tells me like I'm at fault somehow. He even has the nerve to tell me about that time he let me use his car to drive my girlfriend ALL THE FUCKING 1 KM TO HER HOME when it was 1) not needed and 2) not asked.

But since I decided against going all superman and rescue his butt from a potentially dangerous situation, I'm untrustful. I'm going to tell that FUTURE EX-FRIEND of mine a piece of my mind.

I hate when people try to take advantage of me like that. So far it's always asking (no, TELLING ME TO DO) favors, and bitching. He can go to hell with his "friendship" and "trust".

Shit man, that sucks. I say give him a piece of your mind, if he can't remember the good shit you've done for him, well, remind him.

He's a user. Don't fool yourself into thinking he can be convinced to change; just get out of his circle of need.

I plan to. I'm just going to show him what I think and then kindly tell him to go play hide and fuck himself.
