PT: Good for you, good for me!

Post by RogueIce »

I'm rather happy with myself. I managed to run 1.5 miles in formation today. I had to drop back a little bit, but never got back too far behind the platoon/battalion (it's technically supposed to be the latter, but it was in a formation for the former), and I finished with the rest of my shipmates.

I was sore as fucking Hell, but I finished God damn it! :D :D :D

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. 1.5 miles? That was hard? What, were you doing 5-minute miles or something?
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

I'm just out of shape/practice. I was lazy the whole summer. So yeah, at the moment, it's not too easy.

That, and I didn't properly hydrate beforehand. Big fucking mistake, I know.

You're at Annapolis, right? Doing that loop around the intramural fields and whatnot?

The humidity there is a killer, as is the heat. Drink a shitload of water :)

A good rule of thumb is if you urine isn't clear your not drinking enough in the heat.

I used a different one, from my cross country coach.

If you don't have to take a piss, you're not drinking enough.

Word of wisdom from my XC coach, "The key to running faster is to run faster." Hahahahahahahahaha........He's an older Navajo man and he doesn't always make his point clear but he's a good man.(For all of you that have never seen these Navajo run, they're damn good.) The one I recall is the clearer your piss is, the better your off.

'Course if you're real thirst there is a river right there :). Anyway you'll soon enough learn that runs like that are easy (after all in formation runs you can't keep a high pace since people fall out). The tough ones are indiviual effort timed runs, 'course I love running so it doesn't bother me. Nonetheless the other half of staying hydrated is to HEAVILY rehydrate for the next two days. A good PT session will actually dehydrate parts of your body for 2 days and the only way to replenish them is to pound water constantly. I say this because the common "I'm pissing clear, I'm OK" test doesn't indicate full rehydration during the day after a good PT session.

I don't think he's at Annalpolis.

Remember in The Two Towers at the start when Short little Gimli was running? That's me.

Indeed I'm not. Their 4th class midshipmen look funny. :)

I'm at the NROTC Unit at the University of South Florida.

Pussy. :D

And you'd only be watching Navy/Marine and Army, actually. We start up at 0600, Army is later than us (they didn't start to show up in any real numbers and start anything we could see until 0645). Nobody knows what the Hell the Air Force does. Nobody's ever seen them PT before.

Hey, we got a Marine Captain, Marine Gunnery Sergeant (DI for three years) and a Marine Sergeant running our PT.

I think they know a thing or two beyond what a Corporal knows.

About PT in general YES, about running? I've been running competitively for about 9-10 years now and am currently gearing up for a 26 Km (A Metric Marathon :) ) road race. So about running in paticular I know a few things. :D

Why thanks for the compliment :) . Yes we runners just enjoy going out and working a good sweat, it really can do wonders to just cleanse the mind and the body. The months when I'm largely inactive (due to ice, snow, or too much work) are those when I'm most likely to slip back into depression.
