Fueled or not?
And it seems that there's an investigation into why any men where aboard the November, there normally shouldn't have been anyone aboard for such an operation. All nine other crewmembers are now known to be dead.

We'll I've found once site which says it was defueled and another which says it was fueled yet contained 33,000 curies of radioactivity, which is far too low if that was the case, but the site is full of anti nuclear bullshit anyway. If it was defuled then it would still be quite radioactive, but it's not going to irradiate much of anything or spread contaimination. 33,000 curies wouldn't be that much anyway if the figure is accurate.Ender wrote:My understanding is that it is fueled.

Putin wants to know why the submarine had a skeleton crew on board in the first place. I've got to wonder why it was necesssary for them to be on that hulk.

BARENTS-SEA: Leak caused loss of submarine
By Linn Marie Hammernes 02.09.03 22:02
It was a leak and not the storm which sank the Russian submarine in the Barents Sea last weekend. Nine persons were killed in the wreck.
The Russian minister of defence said that the accident early last Saturday occurred after one of the pontoons, used to tow the submarine, tore loose as a result of bad weather.
Informed about leaks
A navy source, however, says that the captain of the submarine shortly before the accident had sent a radio-message that a leak had been discovered, reports AFP.
The source says that the captain called up the tug by radio, and informed them that a leak had been found at the propellers in the stern of the submarine. The crew attempted to close off the area, but the water kept coming in, said the captain.
Did not heed the captain
The captain proposed to the officers of the tug that the submarine could be scuttled in shallow water near Kildin Island, which they were just then passing. The submarine was still stable at this time. The officers chose not to accept the captain's proposal, and shortly later the submarine broke the tow.
Within few minutes, the submarine went down, and only one of the ten aboard survived. To of the dead were found in the icy water, while the other seven still are missing. They were most likely trapped inside the submarine, says the source.

The officers on the tug put their duty before good sense. The Captain should've said "fuck you we're leaving" and that would've been that.
