Going by the poll on the other thread I think most people believe that its the bolt that does the damage and I agree, also I didnt use SB mocked him as my reasoning - I dont fall for that although it is common in many places that I could name.
Polls do not create fact.. If they did, the world would be less then ten thousand years old.

What is fact in SW is that damage is occasionally dealt before the beam hits and that there is a direct reference to this invisible portion(The Ep II ICS). There are also many references to lightspeed propagation of a TL, mostly in NJO.

Part of the problem here, beyond the fact that polls aren't measures of fact s Nitram pointed out, is that the FX fubs are best rationalized in light of two additional pieces of evidence:
1) The AOTC:ICS which specifically states there is an invisible portion
2) Shadows of the Empire where Luke et all are hit by invisible weapons noticeable only for the ionized tracers.

Again I DO NOT agree with him that most of the energy is in the invisible portion, rather I think its variable base on distance to taget and total energy content. However there is almost certainly a non-visible lightspeed component and a visible plasma component.

Energy weapons fire invisible energy beams at lightspeed. The visible "bolt"
is a glowing pulse that travels along the beam at less than lightspeed...The
light given off by visible bolts depletes the overall energy content of a
beam, limiting its range. Turbolasers gain a longer range by spinning the
energy beam, which reduces waste glow.
Nowhere does it mention electromagnetism.

What would you ascribe it to then? It is an energy beam of some type and EM is the most likely candidate, especially given the use of EM components in the firing process of blasters along with the use of focusing lenes as per SWVD. In other words what kind of beam carries the energy?

I claim EM since it makes the most amount of sense and has the support of evidence other than AOTC:ICS. That source just confirmed the beam's existence and confirmed that it was not within the visible spectrum, there are other sources out there I can draw from.

I guess we compete somewhere along the area between the grasshopper and the bird.

Unless we believe we can demolish cars
