Evangelion vs 'Spear-Tank'
This idea came to mind due to Shep's half-joking claim (or maybe completely joking? Or maybe completely serrious?) that an Evangelion can be destroyed by a Russian tank equipped with a 'giant spear' on its turret.
Well, on behalf of MKSheppard and everyone else who have seen about 2 episodes of NGE but still don't know squat about it ( ), here's a likely outcome of such a battle:
I considered animating the images so that the Eva simply responds by activating its AT field, knocking over and/or crushing the vehicle. But that's for another animation, I guess.

Well, that made me smile.
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

Huh. That was interesting.
Fragment of the Lord of Nightmares, release thy heavenly retribution. Blade of cold, black nothingness: become my power, become my body. Together, let us walk the path of destruction and smash even the souls of the Gods! RAGNA BLADE!

Yes, I'm quite aware that it's requirement is cubed when scaled up (thought I don't know why you picked 400 as an example), I was just estimating that the energy it would need to throw a ~60-ton tank is less than the energy it uses to move its ~60-meter tall frame at a running pace. Just a qualitative guess, of course. The Yosemite Bear wrote:No, the fact that while it takes you X amount of HP to move something 400 times your size would require 640,000,000 times the energy to do the same action!
Anywho, has anyone got a request for another animation? I feel kinda up to something, and these Evangelion Chogokins are migthy poseable.

My math fuck up
your greatly understating, while I am overstating
Basically the cube/root factor is that everytime the mass doubles it takes 4-8 times the energy to accolmlish the same action. So if an EVA is that friggin big, it requires more power then I want to think about right now, just to move it's self....

Dammit, I already told DPDarkPrimus; I'm not having them hump and squeeze eachother's asses!XaLEv wrote:I can think of a few things you could do with two Evangelions...Darth Utsanomiko wrote: Anywho, has anyone got a request for another animation? Besides, just wait untill the Unit 00 is shiped and there'll be three Evas to do things with.

It'd be hard to see what they were doing with it.. It'd look like they were smacking their crotch with a dark-green pocket dictionary.XaLEv wrote:You could have them fucking a tank. I could make it unscaled using the models in the smae shot, but I'd rather not risk scratching the Chogokins on some lousy metal tank toy.

Well, considering that the Lance of Longinus was thrown clear of Earth's atmosphere . . . (did it make it to the moon or was it simply stuck in orbit?)Darth Utsanomiko wrote:Ironically, it's possible the tank might be a bit too big. I rewatched the clip from End of Evangelion where one of the MP Evas lands onto an armored vehicle and crushes it with its entire foot.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

A better way of comparing scale is to refer to the Jet Alone episode, using Misato as a yardstick.Darth Utsanomiko wrote:Ironically, it's possible the tank might be a bit too big. Actually, I meant I just watched that scene and got a slightly better estimate (I already suspected that it was too large). Based on what I know of the Eva's height, and the comparative sizes of humans to the width of the Entry Plug and the roughly Eva's hands, I resized the tank, assuming a rough chasis size of 4m x8m. It might be more like 6x12 in this pic, but my sense of scale and perspective isn't the best.Lord of the Farce wrote:A better way of comparing scale is to refer to the Jet Alone episode, using Misato as a yardstick.Darth Utsanomiko wrote:Ironically, it's possible the tank might be a bit too big. Oh, and the Lance of Longinus probably is not a good example of the Eva's throwing abilities. Considering it has its own AT field (which it used to leave the moon and return to Earth in EoE), the Lance likely deployed to both leave Earth at escape velocity and destroy the 15th Angel in orbit. Oh well, there's always the scene of the Eva-02 lifting that 100+ meter-long naval ship out of the lake and throwing it to shore.
nukes vs. EVA discussion split.

Oh, and the best way to determine the size of an Evangelion is to compare its height depicted in a scale sketch comparing it to the aircraft carrier Over the Rainbow, where a length for the vessel in the Newtype 100% Collection book.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.
