Heaven help us, the Sushibars have finally invaded my state.
So.... what're they like? Is it worth going to try it, especially since all I know about Sushi is that it's raw fish served on rice or rolled into fancy little rings. I've had friends from out of state say that it's definately worth trying, but this lil' hillbilly's not spending her money on a meal she'll not finish.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Sushi is great! It's got a fishy taste, and is pretty good for you. But there could be some side effects...George Bush, 1992, dinner with the then Japanese Prime Minister ring any bells?

You should definitely try it out. There are many different kinds as well so you could probably find something you like.
Sushi's great. Don't accidentally dip it in wasabi, though, unless you're ready for it.

If there was a place within 15 minutes of my house that served good maguro sashimi and zarosoba, I would spend so much of my money there...

I for one (or among many it seems) think it is really good. And it isn't actually that fishy tasting if it's fresh. If you're not sure, go to the place, order something else (there should be cooked dishes there too) and only get a couple of pieces to try.
Let's put it this way. My wife hates fish and we make sushi ourselves at home.

You should move to California.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

If you do decide to try it out, bring someone with you (preferably someone who's been to a sushi bar before); that way, if you end up getting sick, at least you won't be alone in your misery.

I'm not sure that being able to eat sashimi every day outweighs all the negative aspects of living in California.

Hawaii.
Just as a sidenote:
Sashimi = Raw fish.
Sushi = Rice wrapped in the seaweed plus whatever.

Some restaurants market sashimi as sushi.

Sushi's good. Definitely try it, but drag a friend or two along as guinea pigs.

Even Safeway's out here have sushi. Costco too. Although Im not a sushi eater, I cant attest to the quality.
Sashimi - raw strips of fish, sometimes served in a bowl with rice.
Sushi - Raw strips of fish laid over clumps of sticky rice
Maki - the fish wrapped in rice and slices into bite-sized pieces.
The flavor of the sushi depends on the type of fish. Tuna and Salmon are the most common, and very un-fishy tasting. Also relatively safe is seabass and yellowtail. The very fishy-tasting types are mackerel and eel.
I'd advise starting out with the Maki. California Rolls, which consist of crab (cooked) and avocado are the most popular, but my favorite are spicy tuna rolls, which consist of a raw tuna and a spicy, yummy paste. There are tons of other kinds of rolls, so be adventurous.
