College Football!

Post by jegs2 »

After a stuttering start on Saturday against upstart USF, Bama woke up and realized they were Alabama, and whooped USF 40 to 17. A stuttering start won't be allowable next Saturday, when Oklahoma comes calling in Tusculoosa, as the Sooners ain't no USF. Hopefully, the Tide will come ready to play from the get-go, and just maybe eke out a victory.

Meanwhile, Georgia looks strong, as does Tennessee, while Auburn looks WEAK -- way to let those California boys walk all over ya like a cheap rug

Next Saturday promises more thrills from the gridiron on College Football Saturday...

I was waiting for you to start a college football thread!

I was there at Georgia's ceremonial slaughter of the Clemson Tigers. Abso-fucking-lutely beautiful. And with a young, inexperienced O-line and a crippled defensive line, we still shut them out. I have extraordinarily high hopes for this season.

I'm also looking forward to the Sooners-Tide game on Saturday. Hopefully your boys can undo some of the damage that Auburn, the women's field hockey team that has the gall to call itself a football unit, did to the SEC last Saturday.

Nothing wrong with Auburn, its just that the Pac-10 is far stronger than anyone gives us credit for.

USC, is strong, really fucking strong, but there is absolutely no reason for Auburn, with its massive, massive hype and arrogance, to not score a single point in its home opener.

Bah, none of them can touch the returning and eventually repeating champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Look what they did without Clerette saturday, and they'll be far tougher once he's back.

UofM crushed Michigan Central 44-0 on Monday. Spartans won too, but the Spartans can bite me. Ann Arbor >>>>> Lansing.

Is it because Auburn is overrated, or is it that USC is a great team?

I hope its the former.

That gives Ga Tech more of a chance of beating Auburn on Saturday.

USC is a great team, make no mistake about it. But Auburn, for the moment looks ridiculously overrated. How they do against Tech on Saturday will paint a clearer picture of what Auburn is going to be this year.

Bah football, my damn Terps lost to NORTHERN FUCKING ILLONOIS. What the hell is going on. Now we've still got FSU coming up so it might be possible to start this season 0-2 when we were hoping for a 10-0 start. WTF?

They were ranked 6th, I think. They've been generating massive hype all summer, and a lot of analysts have picked them as the favorite to win the national championship. Theoretically, they should be incredibly deep at both running back and defensive line. But none of that showed on Saturday, and a team that has generated as much buzz as Auburn getting shut out at its home opener is something that just doesn't happen very often. They're ranked 19th now.

I was quite satisfied with their loss, and I'm sure jegs was too, given that all we've been hearing about for the past 8 months is how Auburn was going to kick everyone's ass.

Man, USF got spanked, though no surprise here. Nobody on campus was expecting a win.

How many time do I have to say it? Nobody, nobody respects the Pac-10.

Didn't hear any of this hype, being on the west coast and all.

I wouldn't call it THAT bad. Nothing can approach the level that Notre Dame wanking rose to last year after they beat FSU.

Actually, by the time ND played USC last year the hype had died down among most analysts (except for the senile Beano Cook) due to ND's loss to Boston College. Funny how quickly people fly off the bandwagon.

Word out of Ohio State is that Clarett is done for the season. I don't know if that means he's off the team, but he's definitely going to be in Tressel's doghouse for a long, long time after being dishonest with the NCAA.

But no matter, with John L Smith at the helm of a ressurected Spartan team, Michigan State shall conquer all. GO GREEN GO WHITE!

Something the Ohio State Athletic Director apparently suggested to the media. Clarett is going to be missing alot of practice thanks to the NCAA suspension, and the feeling is becoming that Clarett will not be able to get up to form even if he's able to rejoin the team.

Clarett got in trouble with the NCAA when an assistant prof accused him of receiving preferential treatment in the classroom, and when he "misstated" the correct amount of merchandise that got stolen from him while he was at practice. The NCAA came in, investigated, and suspended him for at least six games.

....yah. Clarett is a good player. Theoretically, at least, I've never been impressed with him.

Last Saturday would seem to show the answer is "No", having scored more than triple their opponent's score (and while being #17 was nothing to smile at, at least OSU played a ranked team, as opposed to #1 Oklahoma [North Texas? Never heard of them])...
