We didn't have any of that. Though I don't know what you mean by materials.
I didn't know what else to call it thanks to alcohol, but I meant all the sewing, stitching, all that stuff.

We'd probably call that sewing class. :D

I did what Americans would call Home ec. in year 7 & 8, we learned basic kitchen stuff, then textiles, woodworking and basic IT. I think that it should have been mandatory, though admittedly we had the budget for it.

We called it textiles.
But because I took it at a Grammar School (read - ex boys) we didn;t have any sewing machines, so we just learned dying techniques.

Innerbrat, thank you, that's what it was called. Textiles. :)

I don't know what the deal is with that school, because it really was a poor-ass public school full of riff-raff kids, but these are the things that were mandatory in our first two years:

1.) Cooking: Which included cleaning.
2.) Textiles: Sewing by hand, and on machine. Also dying, etc.
3.) Resistant Materials: Building with wood, metals, and plastics.
4.) I.T.: Which included some web and graphics design.
5.) P.S.E.: About how to be a good citizen, balance cheque books and pay taxes etc.

Not like I am complaining, I'm probably one of the only college students in my town actually capable of living on their own.

We didn't have IT classes. We had Computer Science.

And all we did in PSE was argue about issues like abortion and suicide.
Then, during years 10 and 11, everyone not taking RS GCSE got to argue about issues like abortion and suicide twice a week.

You were supposed to do something in PSE!? That's news to me.

I hated textiles, nothing I did ever worked out properly. Even threading the needle took me ages. Same in the cooking lessons as well, but at least I got something moderately edible out of that in the end (if generally slightly burnt).
