Absolutely. This does not necessarily mean, however, that we shouldn't attempt to minimize the possible distinctions that can be made between students. I'm not speaking in favor of school uniforms; as I said earlier I ride the fence. Well, I can think of very few arguments for dress codes that apply to only one gender. But perhaps you are right and uniforms are a good idea. I'm skeptical, however, because it seems like a band-aid solution to a much deeper problem. Those four things you mentioned are not that exotic or strict dress code rules. About 3 years ago my old highschool instituted a new dress code that required males to wear khakis or slacks with shirt that has a collar either Polo style or a full button up, with sneakers becoming outlawed as footwear meaning they had to wear some sort of dress shoe or boot(but no steel toe boots). I am not sure what new rules they implemented for females as my younger cousin only told me of his new dress rules. This is in a public school district where rednecks are common so wrangler bluejeans(which is all I wore in HS) are no longer allowed.aerius wrote:Just saw this one on the local TV news. There were a couple other points but I didn't catch them. Violators would be sent home. They also did some interviews with parents, students, and the school principal. The pricipal was all for it since it was her idea, she went on about public decency and how it would cut down on classroom distractions and some other stuff, and the parent had the same viewpoint in her interview. One student was indifferent since it wouldn't affect her anyways, and another one wasn't too happy about it.
Personally I'm thinking WTF is this shit? While teenage girls probably shouldn't be wearing G-strings & bikinis in school, this is going a bit too far. So how exactly are they going to decide if shorts or skirts are too short? What if some girl leans over a desk and unknowingly shows some cleavage? And what the hell is this no exposed midriffs thing? I can understand not wanting girls running around looking like total sluts (Britney Spears anyone?) but this is going a bit too far. No cleavage? What the hell?
