Don't drink too much though. Atheletes used to be told to drink as much water as possible until some died from bloated brains (not from being smart either). Drink when your feel a thirst and use those urine rules, but don't overdo it. Excess anything can be just as bad as not enough. Best get some form of electrolyte rehydration drink, may be more pricey but they help replenish the stuff lost in sweat.Howedar wrote:I used a different one, from my cross country coach.
If you don't have to take a piss, you're not drinking enough.

The ones who overdrink had to do so grossely. One of the nice things about suffering from the crucible is that you really learn how much water you can drink. Most of us were pounding in excess of 16 quarts a day. The only electrolyte casualties they've ever had at PI were the result of more than 24 quarts of water being drunk in a single day. In other words if you are actually using the water it takes a LOT to overdrink. With that caution comes the reminder that in addition o drinking you need to EAT in order to keep frm dehydrating.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Don't drink too much though. Most deaths are usually medical advice taken the wrong way. Like a girl near where I live who went to clubs at Blackpool and popped some E which she knew would dehydrate her. So she drank litres of water and danced, only the pill wasn't Ecstasy and so she OD'd on H2O and there you go. Brain haemorrhage.CmdrWilkens wrote: The ones who overdrink had to do so grossely. I have a friend who drank about 4 litres of water in the space of two hours when just chatting to me online, I told her to stop quenching her thirst like that lest she lose her Oxford grade brain.
I just did the 1.5 in 15:50 this morning at around 0630 or thereabouts.
I'm getting better! And it hurt, but not quite as much as last week. THough I'll tell you, I'd never have made it if it weren't for my shipmates there to encourage me to keep going. That's probably the biggest help I've ever had, and it worked, quite well.

Wow, I run a mile in about 8:00 right now and I am way out of shape(20 to 30 pounds heavier than I should be). I used to run 3 miles in under 21:00 on average, and I considered that a mediocre pace.Mr Bean wrote:Remind me to shot the man who decided Squids need to have 7 minute miles
I will and will remain a 8:30 minute man![]()
100 yard dash? I'll wipe the floor with you
101 Yard dash? you win unless I can stumble the last yard
As for the original post on running a mile and a half and barely making it, how fast (or slow) did you do it? because if it was under 12 minutes then that is understandable when you haven't ran in about 3 months.

And I have never done any kind of distance running. Ever. It didn't help that was also a lazy-ass for the past three months, and am only know starting in (this makes about the fourth PT session with running in about three weeks).
Looking at that, I'm damn proud of my 15:50, and nothing you say will detract from that.

Plese, we really don't need this to devolve into a "I can run distance better than you." In that case I'd have to run Rob over here to remind everyone that he could, once upon a time, run five miles flat out with full kit and be done in less than a half hour. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to start a pissing contest, I was just surprised how some people think that such and such time running a certain distance is fast. And it maybe to them, but I am not trying to knock them or discourage them from running, but it is not what I was trained to think of as a good speed.
Much like my current weight is 30lbs heavier than when I was in the Marines and aprox~ 20lbs over my max weight limit, but very few civilians consider me fat or obese, even though I may very well be.

That's very, very impressive. A sub-30min 8k is something I'd like to be able to do, geared up or no.CmdrWilkens wrote:Plese, we really don't need this to devolve into a "I can run distance better than you."
