After doing the exchange rate thing, I'd have to say CD's are a bargain here compared to in the states. Except for imports or special edition CD's, almost everything here sells for about 16-19 bucks Canadian, with works out to around 10.50-12.50 US. Which is still cheaper than those new prices they're putting in. And if I head over to BestBuy or Walmart I can usually knock another buck or 2 off those prices. Damn, and I though we were getting gyped on CD's up here.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either. :P

you know what became a good starting point for me when i first started listening to metal? Amazon.com, believe it or not. I started at Iron Maiden, browsed through the "Recommended Artsists" lists and all the user-made recommendations, listened to some samples and voila. In the timespan of a week i had completely converted from mainstream stuff like Fear Factory and Tool (not that they're bad) to stuff like Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Manowar and Nevermore. After that, talking to metalheads at the Offical Iron Maiden Bulletin Board gave me some interaction with fellow metalheads and http://www.bnrmetal.com is a great resource for metal bands--a near-encyclopediatic collection of bands, though theres lots missing its constantly under construction. http://www.metal-rules.com and http://www.metal-observer.com are also some good jumping points for metal news and reviews.

Exactly. Artists could technically do such a thing now, with technoliogy the way it is.
Well, aren't there some artists who own their own record companies? (I think Paul McCartney is the most notable of these, but there are others)
To clarify, I meant tools like the internet with it's mass-communication potential and cd burners being as cheap as they are now...

Definitely not me. I wish I knew people who listened to Underground music, I could finally get some good metal.

I've been wondering the same. How do new usergroups get formed, exactly?
