They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I'm not sure 'like' is the word. Though I did start to tear up and cry like a girl. Damn, poor girl, probably way to young to deal with this kind of shit. My heart goes out to the wife.Durran Korr wrote:Thought you'd like this one...

Re: I love Marines
I don't always have respect for someone just because they are in the military, like the redneck assholes who raped women and killed children in Vietnam, called the natives "gooks." Depends on the person.

You have the right idea, unfortunately you have it backwards. You should give them respect until it is proven that they don't deserve it. Though I should point out that all people deserve this courtesy, but......

Oh, yeah, that's a mature and well thought out statement having everything to do with the subject. STFU.Shrykull wrote:I don't always have respect for someone just because they are in the military, like the redneck assholes who raped women and killed children in Vietnam, called the natives "gooks." STFU. I dont think Soldiers and Marines have room to be politically correct in a fucking war. The dead Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors all had enough balls to sign up, knowing full well that they might die... And you call them redneck assholes for calling the people that were trying to kill them gooks?

As much as the comment was offtopic and uncalled for, I think people are overreacting a bit. He just said something everybody should agree with, that a guy doesn't deserve instant respect for being in the military (or anywhere else) and gave an example of people he wouldn't respect. And Solid Snake, being at war doesn't make rape, infanticide and racism suddenly OK, we like to think the civilized world has outgrown those things.

I never said war made any of that ok. For the very few who actually committed rape or infanticide, they shouldnt have done that, and should have been dealt with accordingly. But telling soldiers to watch their mouths at the risk that they might offend the enemy is absurd. The word "gook" in the way the heros who served in Vietnam meant, usually refered to enemy Vietnamese. There is another word to refer to the Vietnamese as a whole.Colonel Olrik wrote:As much as the comment was offtopic and uncalled for, I think people are overreacting a bit. Yes, but what does that have to do with this thread? He wants to make that comment, he can get his own damn thread.Colonel Olrik wrote:As much as the comment was offtopic and uncalled for, I think people are overreacting a bit. And for me, I'll respect anyone who wears a uniform, unless given reason to feel otherwise by their actions. Just them signing up (in a volunteer military, at least) shows a certain degree of patriotism and honor on their part, again, until/unless proven otherwise.

In that case, I beat everyone to it (at least saying it was offtopic...Durran and Knife didn't say that).Colonel Olrik wrote:Oh, I agree.
